How to update / migrate joomla 2.5.28 to 3.x [2024] Topic is solved

Hi there.

I am stuck on joomla 2.5.28 (recently passed from 2.5.7 to 2.5.28 -i copied Joomla_2.5.28-Stable-Full_Package to / of my previous J 2.5.7 and the update was performed and site it works fine).

But when i am in the step 9 (You will then see your Installed Joomla Version, the Latest Joomla! version and the URL for the update package) is not possible get update. I have restarted the server, and i wait for 1 day and not get notify to update.
I have tried downloading https://downloads.joomla.org/es/cms/joomla3/3-10-0 (Full and upgrade -separatly and in diferent moment) and copy inside on my joomla 2.5.28 but not update.

Wich options do i have to pass from J 2.5.28 to 3.X?

Copying Joomla update files over the filesystem of an older version is not recommended. A mixture of files from different versions is simply not going to work.

Run the update from Components - Joomla! Update. That is the only supported way to update and to make sure the necessary scripts are run that update the database and also delete all the obsolete files from the system.

2. Download 3.4.9 and install as an Extension. Use the Joomla Updater to go further.

3.4.9 not appear on joomla web site, just are 3.4.8 and then 3.5.0

I have tryied to update joomla using this method with 3.4.8 update package, but when i use "upload package file" and then i press button "up and install" not happends nothing. The site recharger it but not more.

I clean temporary files on web browser and cache inside joomla but its not work. :(

I hope get support to migrate my info to a newer joomla version.

The last night i have to mount a environment to install Joomla 2.5.7, i downloaded from https://downloads.joomla.org/es/cms/joo ... format=zip
uncompresed and installed with assistant.
Then i have updated to 2.5.28 with asisstant joomla update. Works ok,

Now i tryied to update to any J3.x version, but it is impossible. I have readed the article https://docs.joomla.org/Joomla_2.5_to_3 ... _Migration and

but none including the official of these methods works because after purge and clean cache and even reset server i tried to find updates and this message appear:

Also try to update using others files like Joomla_3.4.8-Stable-Update_Package.zip from the Extension manager / Install but not work.

OK Just done a test ( I had to refer to the help I wrote 10 years ago)

Installed Joomla 2.5.28 on localhost (php 5.8.40. mysql 5.5.62)
Disabled the Remember me plugin

Here is the bit that is missed
Note: You can also upgrade by installing the Joomla 3.4.0 full package zip via the Extension manager.

(the update did show some errors about manifest files)

Component >>> Joomla Update then showed
Installed Joomla! version 3.4.0
Latest Joomla! version 3.6.5


Addendum
Updating to 3.65 (after requiring admin user/pass twice) and clickng for updates resulted in
Installed Joomla version 3.6.5
Latest Joomla version 3.10.12

Updated extensions

Checking for Updates produced

An update to Joomla 4.4.2 was found, but it wasn't possible to download that update. There are three possibilities why this happens:
- Your host doesn't support the minimum requirements for Joomla 4.4.2 and there is no alternative download for your configuration available.
- The update to Joomla 4.4.2 is not available for your stability level.
- There is a problem with the Joomla Update Server.

Exported database to sql before changing php and database
Changed php to 7.4.33, changed mysql to 8.0.27
Selected a different phpMyyAdmin in wamp and created a new database of the same name. Then imported the sql file

before
upload_max_filesize 2M
post_max_size 8M

after update the php.ini to
upload_max_filesize 30M
post_max_size 30M
now it's ok and as able to upload the .zip file...

For future references, also it can be uploaded by ftp, ssh or other way to next path your Joomla root installation:
/var/www/html/tmp/Joomla_3.4.8-Stable-Update_Package (folder descompresed not .zip) and then install from directory and set absolute path /var/www/html/tmp/Joomla_3.4.8-Stable-Update_Package and press install.

For now, i have to work with this...

I really apreciate your comments,
In my case i installed a fresh joomla 2.5.7 and i updated to 2.5.28
then i have updated to 3.4.8
then 3.6.5 and then to 3.10.12

In the fresh joomla with out any plugins, themes, etc. works ok, the updated was very simple and very well.

For now i have to deal with some add-ons, templates, and soo on...
