@noob13 You receive that error on `Remember me` because you tried to disable on Extensions->Manage->Manage. You should disable on Extension->Plugins.

Also, the most common reason for the update to fail is not allowing it to finish. Make sure there is no time limit on the update.
Issue with migrating? Include logs/joomla_update.php in your report!
Blank screen? Verify pagesource for HTML code (javascript error)
Installation failing on populating database? Install with set_time_limit(0)
Document your customizations!

I will try, but I'm not an IT person so I will have to google how to do that before I can do it, and hope I dont break anything else when I attempt it.

Ugh, now I have a REALLY serious problem. Our hosting company says they have restored the site from a hosting back up 48 hours ago. However, my "under construction" sign is still at the website URL but I cannot access the administrator page to change it or anything else.

If I can't access the administrator then i can't use Akeeba to restore the site. In fact, if I can't access the administrator page then I can't attempt anything at all.

What do I do now?!!! :(

Yes you can.

Use Akeeba kickstart script to restore your site /..../kickstart.php and download your Akeeba backup jpa file in the same directory. Read more in Akeeba about how to use Kickstart there.

Well, the migration failed for a second time and I have now lost access to the administrator page...again. :(

I must be doing something right because the last time it failed at 69.7%. This time it made it as far as 81.1% before crashing and locking me out.

Because I cannot access the administrator page I dont think I can use Akeeba to get the website back. So once again I am going to have to contact the hosting company to see whether they can restore it from a snapshot.

Ask from your host to restore you. Then first you must learn how to back up and restore, it s very important.
https://docs.joomla.org/Backup_Basics_f ... !_Web_Site .
Better for you is to copy your joomla and restore it local to your pc with xampp or wamp server https://docs.joomla.org/Copying_a_Joomla_website .
Then you can migrate local to your pc.
Lets give you now a good way to migrate.
When you will restore j 2.5 to your pc then do this steps:
1. Update your joomla 2.5 to joomla 2.5.28 .
2. Disable all third party extensions that you have.
3. Download joomla 3.4.8 update package from https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/re ... ackage.zip
4. Install the update package from extension manager. Now you will have j 3.4.8
5. Download joomla 3.6.4 from https://downloads.joomla.org/cms/joomla ... format=zip
6. Use Method B for update the j 3.4.8 to 3.6.4 https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Upgrading_ ... 4.x_to_3.5
7. Update your third party extensions and your template.
Done.
If you can t do all these things then use a migration tool. https://extensions.joomla.org/category/ ... -migration

The Akeeba backup.jpa files should still exist on the server even though the Joomla update failed.

When you have restored your site to it's previous state try viewtopic.php?p=3443472#p3442949 . It is slightly different to Ribo's variant but it has been proven to work

I am trying to upgrade an old Joomla site from 2.5 to 3 and am following the steps in the Migration Process document. I have got to the Components/Joomla Update step but when I select Short Term Support and try to Save and Close I get the error message:

Fatal error: Call to a member function filter() on boolean in /home/wwwcoccy/public_html/coccyxnew/libraries/joomla/application/component/modelform.php on line 261

I cannot find any component called modelform.php to uninstall. Also when I go to the Joomla Update page I get the error message:

Error loading component: com_joomlaupdate, 1

Any help with thos would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help I have got this sorted.

One follow up question is that I restored the db in another directory on the server but when I had updated to the new Joomla version it not only updated the copy in this directory but also the live version in another directory - why would this be? Is it because I gave the db the same name, should I have given it a different name?

My site is on J.2.5.6 but Joomla! Update says I am on the latest version of J.2.5 - no mention of J. 2.5.28.
Do I have to upgrade to J.2.5.28 before I can upgrade/migrate to J.3.6.5, which is what I want to do.
Thanks !

@john_wilson: see the answer to your question here: viewtopic.php?f=710&t=946930

The short answer to your "do I have to update to J! 2.5.28 [before the migration]" question is yes.

Joomla! Update in my J.2.5.6. site says that it is up-to-date and doesn't offer an upgrade to J.2.5.28 - WHY ?
Is it necessary to upgrade to J.2.5.28 before upgrading to J.3.5.1 ?
What next ?
Thanks !

Sorry -I missed the reply !
So how do I upgrade to J.2.5.28 if Joomla Update doesn't offer or see it?

Thank you to respondents for your help - much appreciated !
I have successfully upgraded from J.2.5.6. to J.2.5.28 so my next step is to upgrade from J.2.5.28 to J.3.5.1 !

Hello, :)

I have read the nine pages and understand that my current site is a 2.5.9 and I need to upgrade to a 3.4.8, first. Then I can go to component "Joomla Update" and "select the global "options" icon (top right in your screen). Change the settings from Long Term Release (LTS) to STS and save. Now go back to Joomla update and you will see that the 3.x version is available!!!! Click UPDATE and within seconds your site will be" upgraded to a 3.6.5.

Was that correct?

Also, a question...what would happen if I loaded a 2.5.9 database into a new installation of a 3.6.5 and would it be compatible?

Thanks in advance,
madmary1

It wont work, the structure of the tables are different, not all, but many are.

I upgraded our internal website the hard way, couldn't let offline and the also couldn't work more than an hour a day on the process, so I made a copy of the website on my computer and started exporting and importing the tables to a new db, adjust to look like the latest joomla version tables and then importing to a new installation with the latest joomla version.

It's all working ok, some problems here and there but nothing I can't solve, I did some mistakes but if I could try again I think there wouldn't be any mistakes, but I for sure do not recommend this way haha.

Joomla's System Information shows allow_url_fopen = On.
Running FPA, the only warnings are the PHP API is APACHE2HANDLER. (Why is this a concern?) and config mode = 444 (read only).

Just inherited an old site to sort out.

Trying to migrate 2.5.28 to 3.93

After following the documented steps I can't get the Joomla updater to show the update.

I have set it to 'Short term support'
I have Purged the cache.

What am I missing?

Clear browser cache
Try a different setting
Don't think it goes to 3.9.3

Addendum
Have tested with a fresh install and 'Short term support' shows Update to 3.5.1

I realise it won't go all the way in one step. I tried clearing every cache I could find.

However, on looking into this I discover this Joomla was installed using an app in cPanel. There is an updater there. I would like to move this site, do you know how to seperat the installation from the cPanel app?

You could use Akeeba to move the site to localhost

I tested on localhost php 5.6.40 with a fresh J2.5.8
It went
3.5.1
3.8.5
login
3.9.3
FULL SUCCESS

If you have problems updating on localhost try the method in viewtopic.php?f=710&t=956702

Hi, I am making a local migration from J2.5.28 to J3.5.1.
I think I removed all the third-party packages and plugins (I left only Akeeba).
When I go to make the migration, it goes on for quite a while (around 75%) and after a while it comes out this error:
1062 - An error occurred. Duplicate entry '1' for key 'PRIMARY' SQL = INSERT INTO `#__ content_types` (` type_id`, `type_title`,` type_alias`, `table`,` rules`, `field_mappings`,` router`) VALUES (1 , 'Article', 'com_content.article', '{"special": {"dbtable": "#__ content", "key": "id", "type": "Content", "prefix": "JTable" , "config": "array ()"}, "common"..............

Can anyone help me ???
Thank you
