After 3.2 Upgrade - can't see / edit any template files

Post by WhitePhantom » Wed Nov 20, 2013 12:51 pm

Hi,

I've upgraded to 3.2, and now when I go into Extensions -> Template Manager -> Templates and select a template I created previously by copying bees3, I can no longer access the css files.

I just have 3 tabs, Editor, Create Overrides, and Template Description. Under the Editor tab I have a number of folders, one of them being css, but I can't see any list of files in that folder (or any files in any folders). If I log in through FTP they're all there.

When I click css in the Editor tab, the main body of the screen is just filled with a message "You can select from a number of options for customizing the look of your templates. The Template Manager supports Source files, Image files, Font files, Zip archives and most of the operations that can be performed on those files. Just select a file and you are good to go. Check the documentation if you want to know more."

I've looked in the documentation - it shows a list of folders and files, and says "Click any file and you'll be able to edit it directly in the browser" but I can't as there are no files being shown, only folders!

Please help! :(

WP.

Hi
I suggest you clear your browsers cache (history) and refresh the page. This might not fix it but it's worth a try

Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn't make any different.

Emptied cache, refreshed, even tried it on a different machine that I hadn't logged in from before. Still just a list of folders and no files.

I wish I hadn't upgraded. :'(

Same problem here. I post another thread complaining about this issue but no one responded.

Hi,

This is what I see with J3.2.0....... is this what you mean or have I misunderstood something?

Can you got to Admin > Extension Manager and click on the "Warnings" link? Anything there?

Can you got to Admin > Extension Manager and click on the "Database" link? Click "Fix". Anything reported there?

I'm assuming a standard, unedited admin template.

Hi,

No that's not what I see - I don't get any files listed at all. Here's what I'm seeing:
Template_No_Files.jpg
I'm using the standard unmodified Isis admin template. I tried changing to Hathor, but exactly the same.

Thanks for any input!

Did you look at the other things I mentioned?

Do you get any other warnings anywhere else or when trying to do other admin tasks?

Same issue here (glad to see I am not the only one)

I have:
Cleared cache - including expired etc
Checked and optimised databases
Fixed permissions
deleted and reinstalled template
Rolled back update and re-tried
etc

Anyone have any clues on this one?

I've checked everything that has been suggested, but to no avail.

Extensions -> Extension Manager -> Warnings tells me 2 things:
- the php temporary directory is not set, and that "Whilst the directory not being set isn't always a problem, if you are having issues with manifest files not being detected or uploaded files not being detected, setting this in your php.ini file might fix the issue". However I can't find a php.ini file anywhere - where would I find this?
- that my tmp directory is not writable. However I have chmod'd it to 777 and it still gives this warning, so I don't understand that.

(Are these warning relevant to the problem I'm having?)

Extensions -> Extensions Manager -> Database tells me everything is up to date. I clicked Fix anyway and it gives no warnings.

Anyone any ideas at all how I can resolve this?

Thanks!

I think it is significant; not having this set will cause any number of issues for you.

You probably need to set the upload_tmp_dir to point to your /tmp folder in joomla root. You should be able to do this in a php.ini file in both your joolma root folder and also in /administrator (in my experience, at least).

Thanks for that JAVesey.

I've never created a php.ini file before - should it be something like this:

; Set upload tmp directory
public $upload_tmp_dir = '/usr/local/pem/vhosts/138010/webspace/httpdocs/tmp';

And then put that in both the root and admin folder?

Sorry for the slow reply - been a bit hectic this weekend :(

The line to you need will be similar to this:

Code: Select all

upload_tmp_dir = /usr/local/pem/vhosts/138010/webspace/httpdocs/tmp
Yes, start with a copy in your joomla root folder and also in /administrator

That may well be enough for you.

You might need to add a line to a .htaccess file but try the above first :geek:

Thanks JAVesey but that didn't work.

I created a file in Notepad with just that one line of code, saved it as php.ini, and FTPd it to both the root and admin folders, but everything is still exactly the same when I go to Extensions -> Templates.

What might I need to do with the .htaccess file?

:(

I had the same issue, only the directory structure no files to click on. I was
comparing my site that upgraded to a freshly installed site. Did a text compare on
on the table #_extensions (#- what ever database table prefix you use). On both
sites on row 20 was 'com_templates', 'component'.

The upgraded joomla site only had {"template_positions_display":"1"} listed in the
params part on phpMyAdmin.

The fresh installed had
{"template_positions_display":"1","upload_limit":"2","image_formats":"gif,bmp,jpg
,jpeg","source_formats":"txt,less,ini,xml,js,php,css","font_formats":"woff,ttf,otf","com
pressed_formats":"zip"} listed in the params part.

I recognized the extensions from the template manager -> options in joomla.
Viewing that page showed all the extensions listed correctly. So as a test, I copied
each line Valid Image Formats, Valid Source Formats, & Valid Font Formats. Then
would delete the line and then re-paste them back. Hit the Save&Close button and
went back to the template manager and all files were now showing up. Also checking
the database table. It was now showing all the formats as the fresh install did.

Not sure why it listed them yet in the database they were not listed and had to be
forced saved.

Hope that helps any who come across this. I couldn't find a solution in my searches.

Try turning on 'preview module positions' in Options under Template Manager, I think you will then see the individual files listed.
If you then turn preview positions off again the files will still be listed. Curious but works for me.

Hi,
got it working with JAVesey's information - thanks JAVesey!

Created a directory tmp under /administrator
Added a PHP.ini file under /administrator which included the line from JAVesey (edited of course)
Checked the Warnings under Extension Manager - the message about temp space was gone
Under Template Manager I get the option of Styles or Templates in the top left-hand corner (just below "Default")
Select "Template" instead of Styles

WhitePhantom: you are already there, it's just that the layout is just different. Click on the css folder and you will get a listing

Thanks dicktracy - that worked for me too. Just disable the 'preview module positions' property in options, save and re-enable.

Extensions > Templates > Options
Preview Module Positions - Enabled
Save

It worked!

disabling "preview module positions" solved my issues with inability to open files in the editor -- but I cannot [copy template]
any ideas?

edit template copy is working now, don't ask what I did. nothing really, just clicked back & forth a bunch of times
