Pre-release Testing

Post by Webdongle » Fri Jan 24, 2014 4:50 pm

To avoid problems with updates the Joomla Release Candidates need as much testing as possible. Users who wish to help can do so easily in 3 simple steps.
  1. Install a fresh Joomla of the current 3.x.x in a test environment
    (or a copy of your working site to a test environment)
  2. Go to Components >>> Joomla! update >>> options and set the 'Update server' to 'Testing'.
  3. When the Joomla Release Candidate is released ... update and test various links.
If a 3rd party extension(or Template) fails please contact the 3rd party developers. If you find a bug in Joomla please report it on the tracker http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla ... er_id=8103

Hopefully the dev's will provide a link to changes made http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f ... 0#p3119329

In addition to that
  • Any user that has a failed update can report their environment and where the update failed
  • The user can navigate the front end of their site and check 3rd party extensions still work. They can report any 3rd party extension No Avails to the devs of those extensions
With users testing on fresh installs and copies of working sites(N.B. not the actual working site) then the tests will hopefully catch errors before live sites are updated.

Release Candidates for 2.5.18 and 3.2.2 are now uploaded and the update server is set up for testing. Please remember these packages are *NOT* intended for use on production websites as these are pre-release packages.

The download packages for each release are available at:
2.5.18: http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla ... ge_id=6838
3.2.2: http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla ... ge_id=6839

The list of fixed issues for each release is at:
2.5.18: http://developer.joomla.org/version-2-5 ... notes.html
3.2.2: http://developer.joomla.org/version-3-2 ... notes.html

Updates within the CMS can be tested by setting the Update component's update server to Testing.

If any bugs are found, please report them at http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla ... er_id=8103

@jgress-

Remember do not test on a live site. You can create a copy of your live site in a subfolder if you wish ... and test on that copy.

:) um, thanks for the reminder, mister. i would never test on a live site. ;) working on 3.2.2 right now. i wish i knew what half this stuff meant - but that's ok. i'm testing whatever i can and then whatever is "normal."

@pishro

Do NOT use 3.2.2RC on a live site !!! It is for testing purposes only. Either on a copy of your working site or on a fresh install in a test directory or on localhost.
