Joomla! 2.5 End of Support and Help with upgrading to 3.x
Official Support for Joomla! 2.5 ends on the 31st of December 2014. This means that no bug fixes, features, or security updates will be provided for the 2.5 series after that End of Support (EOS) date.
Help and advice available: https://docs.joomla.org/Why_Migrate
The first release of Joomla! 2.5 was in January 2012, and it was the third minor release in a series that started with Joomla! 1.6 in January 2011.
After the EOS date for 2.5, your web site will continue to work, but you need to start to planning now to upgrade/migrate your 2.5 websites to Joomla! 3.x.
Joomla! 3 is a secure and stable release that had its first release in September 2012. The Joomla 3.x series is expected to continue being supported at least until September 2016 according to the new Development Strategy.
This new Joomla! Development Strategy was adopted in March 2014, and replaced the previous concept of Short Term (STS), and Long Term Support (LTS) Releases. You therefore do not have to wait until 3.5 to upgrade your site from 2.5, but can safely plan to do so now. See the Improved Release Cycle FAQ for more details.
In line with the new Development Strategy, the Production Leadership Team (PLT) aims to maintain backward compatibility within the Joomla 3 series (3.0.x, 3.1.x, 3.2.x, 3.3.x, 3.4.x, etc.), which means that upgrades between the these major versions would normally only require a one-click-upgrade (in addition to keeping all installed extensions up to date).
Upgrading from 2.5 to 3.x is (in many cases) a simple process, but for bigger web sites, or sites with particular extensions installed, extra care needs to be taken.
To help guide your through the upgrade/migration process, the Update Working Group have prepared a Migration Portal on the Joomla! Documentation site. Reading and following the steps and advice will help to prevent or limit issues during your site upgrade:
https://docs.joomla.org/Why_Migrate
You can also read this article by Jennifer Gress, in the Joomla! Community Magazine: Why Migrate? And Then…How?
Always remember to create a working backup of your site before attempting any update, upgrade, or migration.

Re: Joomla! 2.5 End of Support and Help with upgrading to 3.
You should open a new thread for your issue to start with. Then I would contact your host and have them do a cPanel restore.
Again, please start a new thread so you can be helped more effectively.

Re: Joomla! 2.5 End of Support and Help with upgrading to 3.
I appreciate very much your outline. I am currently on 2.5.28.
However now I am stuck in Step 10 of the migration procedure https://docs.joomla.org/Joomla_2.5_to_3 ... _Migration, the update to 3.x doesn't show up.
I did clear the cache and got a response like that (sorry for using german localization):
and also the persisting message

Re: Joomla! 2.5 End of Support and Help with upgrading to 3.
Please restore your back up, uninstall the extensions that have seperate versions for joomla 2.5 and joomla 3.x and update the extensions that have same versions for joomla 2.5 and joomla 3.x , disable remember me plugin, and try to update joomla from extensions manager - install the latest update patch https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/releases/tag/3.4.8 ( Update from Joomla! 2.5, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 or 3.3 ). Try to do it local to your pc with xampp or wamp server with php version 5.4 or 5.5 or 5.6 https://www.joomla.org/about-joomla/tec ... ments.html
Please tell us here the errors in english as many users don t know german language.

Re: Joomla! 2.5 End of Support and Help with upgrading to 3.x
THIS WORKED FOR ME
1. Get a site backup (DATABASE + FILE FOLDER SITE)
2. Prepare the server (APACHE + SQL)
3. Create a database and import the backup database
4. Remove all useless table records in sin_redirect_links table
DELETE FROM WHERE PREFIX_redirect_links published IN (0,2, -2)
Where PREFIX - a prefix of your DB.
(Thanks to http://www.eugenesivokon.com)
5. SET configuration.php
6. Log in to your Joomla! Administrator panel
7. Remove all unnecessary items articles, modules, menus
8. Uninstall all third party extensions
9. Set one of the original templates as default
10. Uninstall third party templates
11. Save a backup of the modified DB
12. DOWNLOAD JOOMLA updater (Joomla_3.4.7-Stable-Update_Package)
13. install the updater FROM "INSTALL" Extensions Manager
14. DOWNLOAD JOOMLA updater (Joomla_3.5.1-Stable-Update_Package)
15. Unzip the updater SITE MENU ROOT (overwrite files)
16. Log in to your Joomla! Administrator panel and go to Extensions → Manage → Database and select the Fix button on the top left.
17. Go within the manage section to Discover menu item in the left menu and click the Discover button. Select only the Joomla! CORE extensions shown in the list and click the Install button. (Note: do not select for installation the 3rd party extensions you may have installed).
18. In the main menu of your administrator panel, go to System → Clear Cache and if any rows are shown, select them and click the Delete button at the top left.
19. That’s it

Re: Joomla! 2.5 End of Support and Help with upgrading to 3.x
That means you have NOT properly updated to J3.4.7. Apparently, you haven't noticed the failed update to J3.5.1.
You shouldn't update like you described, you should use Joomla Update to get from 3.4.7 to 3.5.1.
Database->Fix and Discovery are no equivalent to proper updating!
The only proper manual update I know is with the postupdate from mbabker, you can find it here on the forum.

Issue with migrating? Include logs/joomla_update.php in your report!

Re: Joomla! 2.5 End of Support and Help with upgrading to 3.x
I am trying almost 1 month now to upgrade my 2.5.28 site to 3.5.1 (as the system suggests). I did everything in order as the instuctions.. My site is naked from packages plugins modules templates components of 3rd party, I removed them one by one to be sure no matter if they are compatible with 3.x joomla. No matter what I do I keep receiving the following message during update:
Fatal error: Call to undefined method JHtml::getJSObject() in /opt/bitnami/apps/joomla/htdocs/libraries/cms/html/behavior.php on line 396
I have installed my site local in latest bitnami (ubuntu) server with the latest version.
When I upgrade in the past from 1.5 to 2.5 , I found it very easy! Now I don't know what to do !!!
Could you please give an explanation of this message.
