Do this:
1. Create php file named for example test.php widtgh this content:

@Sarandib The edit your configuration.php and change $temp_path $logs_path and make sure that firs part of this paths is eqoal to output of this script. Then check in permission tab if this path are writeable and then try run the Joomla! update.

  1. Did you use their install or did you use the Joomla full package to install initially ?
  2. Did you install to the root or did you create a folder for Joomla ?
  3. Have you checked the update package is in /tmp ?
Best guess is you have a 3rd party extension preventing Joomla downloading the update package to /tmp. Try

Use your browser to download the https://downloads.joomla.org/cms/joomla ... ackage.zip
Upload it to /tmp then try the update
or
Components >>> Joomla Update >>> Upload&Upload (tab) ... Upload&Install the update package.

Please do not edit your configuration.php

Just in case you missed to see it ... here is a request for further information and instructions for what to try.

1. I just installed via Live Update Tab and the write files directly method
2. I think Its directly (Automatically) writing to root folder
3. Please check the image of the temp folder
Thanks

Your image did not show Joomla_3.8.0-Stable-Update_Package.zip in the /tmp folder. Please try
Use your browser to download the https://downloads.joomla.org/cms/joomla ... ackage.zip
Upload it to /tmp then try the update

I think that first you must fix the error "The PHP temporary folder is not set" and after you must fix the error "The joomla temporary folder is not writable or does not exist" . About the first warning ask your host to fix it. About the second warning try to put in these folders if they exist permission 777 and after put them back again permission 755 and check if the second warning fixed. The permissions can change from ftp or from file manager of your host control panel.

I think that first you must fix the error "The PHP temporary folder is not set" and after you must fix the error "The joomla temporary folder is not writable or does not exist" . ....
Not necessarily correct because if the temporary folder is not set then it usually defaults to /tmp. Joomla not being able to write the update file to /tmp does NOT mean that /tmp is unwriteable. It could be that something is preventing the server from downloading or something in the configuration.php is incorrect. fpa reports ' System TMP Writable: Yes'.

Downloading https://downloads.joomla.org/cms/joomla ... ackage.zip and using Components >>> Joomla Update >>> Upload&Upload (tab) ... Upload&Install the update package by-passes many server errors.

The Temporary directory is not set on my 1and1 account but it defaults to /tmp and I have no problems installing/updating.

When we see the first warning Usually the temporary folder has no value and when you put /tmp the warning is disappears. I m not sure if this is his problem but i believe generally to not appear this warning as joomla gives this reason for this warning. About the second warning i saw that fpa reports ' System TMP Writable: Yes' that s why i said to try to put 777 to tmp and logs folders and after to put back 755 and check if the warning will disappear(i did n t said to tell to your host to fix a permission issue) and also i have in my mind that OP says that the path of these two folders is correct.

I have a 1and1 account and there is no problem with the temporary directory not being set. The problem IMHO lays elsewhere ... hence my asking the OP to upload directly to the /tmp it by-passes many server errors. Also Components >>> Joomla update >>> Upload&Update (tab) ... by-passes other errors. One of the reasons those methods were provided for was to by-pass some server errors.

Got the details
Quick look with ftp ... looks like Group settings are incorrect. Only had Administrator rights in admin not Super User so unable to look further.

Suggest you make a backup and use the backup to recreate on localhost and update there.

It's a server configuration issue
Group is 'ftpuser'
Joomla global config will not save unless configuration.php is set 644 But when ftp layer set it won't save even when 644
Here is the twist
Editing the configuration.php via filezilla the edited file can only be transferred when the ftp layer is set in Joomla
So
ftp layer can not be set by editing configuration.php but can in Global config.
ftp layer can not be unset in Global config but can by editing configuration.php

Joomla should be able to save Global config with configuration.php 444 and when saving with configuration.php 644 it should reset it 444.

Hello Every one ,

Thank you all for your kind support, especially "Webdongle" , "ribo" and everyone else for taking personal efforts to fix this issue, by the way as per Webdongle's advice I was in touch with 1and1 and they figured out the issue and fixed it! and now I am able to update Joomla without any issues. the problem, according to them is the the TMP and Logs folders are not configured properly....! To be honest it's Greek to me..! Once again I salute everyone and wish you all success and please continue your great support for people like me. - T H A N K Y O U. . . . !
