3.6.4->3.6.5

Post by zupidupi » Sun Jun 03, 2018 9:12 am

Hello. Classic problem: Old Joomla-installation, v 3.6.4 that I'm trying to upgrade all the way to 3.8.8. The site was recently moved to another server, which might have to be configured in order to set things right.

The Live update simply tells me "Error Download of update package failed."

So, I go to the Upload and Update-tab, and try to upload the patch package I found here, and downloaded: https://downloads.joomla.org/cms/joomla3/3-6-5.

The upload works OK (though I don't know where it ends up...), I'm asked to re-enter my username/password in order to verify the update, and then I'm greeted by the infamous message "An error has occurred.
403 Access forbidden." I've attached the FPA-report. Any help would be much appreciated.

cheers,

Mike

Aw shucks, there it was, right under my eyes...now I feel slightly dorkish.

Anyway, any smart trick for fixing this, without harassing my admin too much? Some .ini-entry to fiddle with, to engage a previous version of php (provided it's installed)?

thx again!

If your webhost supports Muliple PHP (Cloudlinux or EasyApache4) you can set that straight in your control panel. It is not advised to downgrade to a EoL-PHP version (5.6) in the live environment but for the upgrade useful. Change to PHP 7.0 or PHP 7.1. Both work fabulous with Joomla and are faster and better

(If your hosting company has not compiled multiple PHP-versions these advises from Webdongle and me make no sense. In that case change host-->outdated)

Or use wamp on localhost and you can switch php versions easily.

Lots of thx and shoutouts to webdongle and Leo for clear and practical advice.

The server is probably not having multiple PHP-versions...yet. I've asked nicely - let's see what happens.

Which Control Panel are you referring to, Leo? Joomla's? And if so, what setting should I tweak, didn't find anything that sounded practical.

Changing host sounds like a hassle...I'm thinking of setting up a MAMP-environment on my iMac, backuping and copying the site to the mac, upgrading the site to 3.8.8 piece by piece on the local MAMP-host, and then backuping it to transfer back to the host. Could work, aye?

cheers,

Mike

Pick an Akeeba to suit your Joomla/php versions https://www.akeebabackup.com/compatibility.html . Use the backup to transfer the site.

Thx again! Yeah, I've used Akeeba before, and know that it is a breeze. The hassle I was referring to was finding another web hotel :)

Backup already taken, now MAMP:ing. Wish me luck ;)

So, my admin fixed me up with a temporary php5.6-environment...and still the 403-message. I guess I should blame the missing extensions, now?
