Upgrading to 3.8.8 took down my site???

Post by fr33z3w1zar5 » Thu Jun 07, 2018 3:17 am

I am hosted by Cpanel via Godaddy and found this week, after an automated update to 3.8.8, that my site went down... I called GoDaddy to test their servers.. and there was no problem on their end.

I then went into my application manager, and loaded my 3.8.7 backup....the site loaded and works fine now.

Could it be that my plugins aren't updated to the latest version 3.8.8?

I know there is a security vulnerability in 3.8.7. and users are being asked to upgrade to 3.8.8...but I'm not sure how to pinpoint the location of the problem which took down my site and posted an "array" webpage not found error message.

All help is much appreciated.
I've attached a screenshot of the error message for reference...

See the Joomla 3.8.8 FAQ https://docs.joomla.org/Category:Version_3.8.8_FAQ
and in particular this issue: https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Module_ran ... fter_3.8.8

which has been fixed with this patch: https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/pull/20533/files
(will be fixed in future release, Joomla 3.8.9)

Thank you!

I'm sorry to have to ask, but how can I patch the code? Do I switch the php file? Or the mSQUL?

Many thanks for all your help.

It is about editing the file modules/mod_random_image/tmpl/default.php. The patch shows the current line 16 with prefix '-' and its new version with '+'. That is the whole patch.

Download the file from the website and edit it with a true text editor like Notepad++ to avoid corrupting the file, copy and paste line 16, then upload the new version of the file.
