Updating from Joomla 3.4.3

I've been trying to get around to doing this for a long time and now is the time to finally get it done.

I thought I'd read in the past that from certain versions including mine you could only go directly to a intermediate version. I have Joomla_3.4.x_to_3.4.7-Stable-Patch_Package on my laptop so I have the feeling this was the first update I should perform. Is this the case or can I go straight to Joomla_3.5.0-Stable-Full_Package?

My Joomla install stopped upgrading automatically a long time ago so I know I have to overwrite the install and then it seems now the instruction is to run postupdate.php before fixing the database.

I have download my website from the server and created a local install using xampp-win32-5.6.30-1-VC11.

The best way to update Joomla is to use the Joomla! Update component in the backend. If you use the Joomla! Update component it will do everything for you automatically. There is usually no need to download/upload packages by hand. The Joomla! Update component should do it all for you automatically. Try it for yourself.

The Joomla update component stopped working a long time ago.

So I tried to update again which I'd already tried before writing this post.

I first overwrite with the Joomla_3.4.x_to_3.4.7-Stable-Patch_Package. I open the administrator panel and everything looks good. I fix the database.

I then update manually the 3 plugins that are out of date.

Now I overwrite with Joomla_3.5.0-Stable-Full_Package

I run postupdate.php then remove the installation folder.

I open Extensions->Manage->Database and see 13 errors.

I run Fix Database and after some time an empty page with the folowing URL

http://localhost/salgoass/administrator ... w=database

I open Extensions->Manage->Database again and see 1 problem.

I suspect Ownership errors because configuration.php should be 444 and folders should be 755

Try this
Global config >>> save ... is configuration.php now 444 (if not change it to 444)
Global config >>> save again ... does the save fail?

OK first things first Use Wamp not xampp because Wamp can change php on the fly.
Tested update from J3.4.3 on localhost
First it offered J3.6.5
After update it asked to re login to confirm cleanup.
After a wait of what appeared to be ages ... it returned a blank screen
But /administrator showed the admin and it presented update to 3.8.10

Trying to update produced invalid Login warning
Logging out then back in again and update proceeded OK
Update completed and returned blank screen
/administrator showed admin
Full Success

Suggest
Install Wamp
Copy your website to localhost
Use the files from J3.4.3 to overwrite the files of (the copy)
Extensions >>> manage >>> Discover ... see if you can get Components Joomla update working
(Also check the Joomla update component Update Channel is 'Default)

If no avail then use https://downloads.joomla.org/cms/joomla ... ackage.zip for postupdate.php
