Invalid login when upgrading Topic is solved

Hi,

I have tried various solution to upgrade my working site from 3.8.10 to 3.8.12 but none works
I get an "invalid login" message each time

FTP is disable
Database check is OK
rights on server are set to 755
server is correctly downloading Joomla_3.8.12-Stable-Update_Package.zip in the tmp folder
I have tried updating via direct connection, by uploading file from an URL, a folder on my computer.
None works.

Any idea ?

I'm not sure about the invalid password thing, the Joomla Update component may prompt you for the details (and the credentials you enter are those of the super user you are logged in with in order to do the update).

I have tried updating via direct connection, by uploading file from an URL, a folder on my computer.

Not sure where you used the above methods, but the only way to update Joomla core is through Joomla Update (and let it do the update) or using the Upload and Update method to upload the relevant install package. Installing via Extension Manager will not work, and hasn't worked that way since Joomla 3.5 (or earlier).

Yep, the Joomla Update component prompts me when I use the upload file from an URL. Then I enter the usperuser credentials, but it fails like when I use the direct download message with an invalid login.

I think I may have an idea what this "invalid login" message is all about. I don't think we're talking about logging in to the backend in order to do administrator work (e.g. activities like updating Joomla). I suspect we're discussing using FTP.

Question: have you enabled FTP in the Joomla Global Configuration settings?

No. This message is displayed when connected as superuser I try to update joomla from the normal control panel.

com_xmap (2.3.4) is outdated and vulnerable https://packetstormsecurity.com/files/1 ... ction.html uninstall it immediately. Check all your other extensions ... you will need to check them on the authors sites as not all use Joomla's update notification.

what actual process are you using to update? ensure you are on write files directly, and have nothing in your ftp settings (in addition to ftp layer off)

Hi

I am really surprised by the fact that the extensions are out of date.
The way I try to keep Joomla up to date is easy, I just log on the admisitrative page (as surper user) and check on the bottom left.
The current portal states that extensions are up to date and joomla needs to be updated :

What am I doing wrong ? How do I update the extensions then ?

Hi,

I have removed the XMap component
set configuration.php to 444
Livesite var (in configuration.php) has no value.
Removed the ftp information in configuration.php

Still not updating

Not all extensions use the notification of update. You will need to go to the authors sites and check for the latest version there.

Have you followed Mandville's instructions to 'write directly to files' ?

Akeeba 'Backup on update ran'
Site updated with 'write to files.
FULL SUCCESS
You can remove my super user now.

Sometimes reaching a page in Admin took a long time ... perhaps when you tried to update then the server timed out? Or perhaps you need to clear your browser cache?

Extensions >>> Discover ... there ae items there need installing!!!

Perharps my browser / infrastructure prevents Joomla from updating. I will try next time there is an update.

Hello everyone, I had this problem when uprading joomla from 3.6.5 to 3.8.13.
I think the problem is the update package that you download.
Is importan to see wich package is the correct one.

For example.. I found an update pack witch is the one to use to upgrade from versions 3.X to 3.8.13.

I update my joomla folowing this idea and everything goes ok...

Joomla update automatically selects the correct one. You don't need to intervene. Just be sure you've chosen the correct update channel in the Joomla Update component options (i.e. not one of the 'testing' channels, but the normal one which should be what is notifying you of the normal stable release versions).

If you do need to do it through the Upload and Update,just download the update package from downloads.joomla.org.
