can't update from 3.5.1 to 3.6.5 Topic is solved

Hello I am trying to make an update from a joomla v3.5.1 to 3.6.5 and I it doesn't happen. I click update to 3.6.5 then I click write files directly and finally I get the following error from firebug, index.php?option=com_joomlaupdate&task=update.install&137c5b8b79211f82f7244f9212e0c9f5=1:29 Uncaught TypeError: window.pingExtract is not a function

I thought there might be issues that the FPA highlighted such as "Database password missing" (but on a second look, that might make sense on localhost if the site is not live ).

The permissions are shown as 777 but since your hosting is Windows this doesn't matter as CHMOD is a Unix/Linux specific function

Make sure your third party extensions are updated.

php 7.0 is EOL in December. Upgrade to 7.2

Set a database password.

mod_ssl is missing. Is the updates sites https?

The Mysql client is 5.0, while the database is 5.7

I don't know why it fails with a JS error. Try using Chrome browser instead of Firefox.

By default there is no password for database user on localhost.
Firefox works OK with localhost.
The stack used is probably the problem. imho wamp is best.

Addendum
To add a different php version

Download the zip of thread safe version of the php you want from https://windows.php.net/download
Extract all files in a new folder e.g. : C:/wamp/bin/php/php5.4.13/
Copy the wampserver.conf from another php folder (like php/php5.2.8/) to the new folder
Rename php.ini-development file to phpForApache.ini
Done ! Restart WampServer (>Right Mouseclick on trayicon >Exit)

on my localhost its windows and wamp stack but I tried it on the server where its shared hosting and I dont know. I tried every php version from 5 to 7+ but I still get the same ajax error.. I posted the screenshot

I updated on wamp localhost as previously described. Perhaps it's a 3rd party extensions causing a problem?

Try
1. Delete the folders/files and install Joomla3.5.1 to a new database ... edit the configuration.php to connect to the original database and update (then update to the latest version).

2. If the database updates with the fresh Joomla files then the 3rd party files can easily be recreated. Delete the folders/files again ... install the latest Joomla to another new database and install the 3rd party extensions.

3. Connect the configuration.php to the original (now updated database). You now have an updated site with fresh Joomla and 3rd party files.

Which files and folders are you referring to? I have virtuemart installed and it has products with images in it. I don't want to recreated every single product and image again.
The template is horme_3 in the front end and I touched it.
In the back end its protostar-default haven't touched it.

If I understood correctly you are telling me to act in 3 steps?
1. Make a fresh installation of joomla 3.5.1 and redirect the database to the old one from configuration.php and make the update. It did succeed.

step 2 I am lost. I cant reinstall each and every product again in virtuemart. If I reinstall vm everything will be lost all my configurations and payment methods.

I found the issue. I checked the url that was used to do the update and it was calling

../administrator/components/com_joomlaupdate/restore.php

But I was getting an error file not found. I checked my folder but I saw a file with the name restoration.php not restore.php. I downloaded the Joomla! 3.5.1 Full Package (.zip) again and checked to see if something was corrupted. I found that the file was supposed to be named restore.php and it was indeed in the zip file I downloaded. I just copied the file and everything worked. Also I need to mention that in my localhost I removed the .htaccess

You could have cherry picked the files to delete thus leaving the images.
Ah you found the error. Perhaps the misnamed file because Joomla was originally installed using a 3rd party install? Anyway you found the error.

oh no! and when I did the same thing on my server it finished the update with an error. Error displaying the error page: Class 'JFactory' not found: Class 'JFactory' not found. And the website stopped completely.

I fixed it again. I just uploaded the folder "libraries" from my localhost update to the server and it worked. Thank you guys.

Akeeba packs the files, database and an installer into one file.

That file is unpacked with Kickstart.
Then the installer runs.
It installs like Joomla and creates your database tables.
