Help to upgrade, when site suddenly is blank
Hi all,
All of a sudden, my Joomla-site is not working anymore: http://www.hoerningjensen.dk/herodantipas/
All the files are still in the root directory. The host is www.one.com.
I have not upgraded Joomla since I set up the site maybe 8 years ago or so. It is a simple site accompanying a book, I wrote.
Is it possible to recover the site by upgrading to a new version of Joomla? Perhaps one.com made some changes to their server that produces this problem.
I would be very grateful for any suggestions that would bring my site back to life!
Morten

Re: Help to upgrade, when site suddenly is blank
Welcome to the forum!
If you installed the site in 2010, it must be Joomla 1.5. Do you have a backup, including the file system and the database, or did your host make backups, which would make it simple to clone the old site?
Your host should be able to tell what was done last, maybe PHP was upgraded and Joomla 1.5 does not work on PHP 7, at least not without a few tweaks. Otherwise, if you have copies of the articles and images, a new site could be built easily.
The last snapshot in the Wayback Machine of the Internet Archive from the home page of the site is from October 13, 2017, but other pages were not archived:

Re: Help to upgrade, when site suddenly is blank
Host has possibly upgraded the php? If that is the case then see if you can change the php in the Host's CP to get your site working again. Depending on how much you have on the site ...
Either
use https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/j2xml/ to move your data to the latest Joomla version.
Or
Install a fresh Joomla without sample data and copy/paste the Articles. (copy/paste via notepad++)

Re: Help to upgrade, when site suddenly is blank
Hi,
Thanks for the fast reply!
I do have a full backup - all the files are still in place at my website, when I log in. Folders like administrator, cache, components, images, includes etc.
I am unable to locate any folder named "pages" or so.
Would it be possible for you to guide me to a step-by-step tutorial on how to update now that I am not able to login and to update from the web-interface?
Thanks!
Morten

Do you mean the control panel, provided by your host? Does that have an icon called File Manager, where you see the files, and also access to the database schema using phpMyAdmin?mortenjensen01 wrote:I do have a full backup - all the files are still in place at my website, when I log in.

I mean: using ftp, I can see all files. But I cannot login to joomla since the page is blank.
So, I can manually copy files through ftp. Is it possible to upgrade this way?

I'm not aware of any J! website (or any other CMS, for that matter) that has a folder named /pages.mortenjensen01 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 4:19 pmI am unable to locate any folder named "pages" or so.
Upgrade from which version of Joomla? Do you mean that you want to migrate your website from J! 1.5.something to J! 3.9.1? No, you cannot migrate your old J! 1.5 website to J! 3.x by uploading (and replacing) the J! 1.5 file system with J! 3.x files.mortenjensen01 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 7:22 pm... There are hundreds of tutorials on the internet that explain how to migrate from J! 1.5 to J! 3.x. If you don't want to do this yourself or if you feel that the process is beyond your skill level, there are hundreds of professional website developers who are prepared to undertake this task for you.mortenjensen01 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 7:22 pmWould it be possible for you to guide me to a step-by-step tutorial on how to update ...

Re: Help to upgrade, when site suddenly is blank
Also be aware your site's content is not physical HTML pages, all content is stored in MySQL database. So you need the DB to run your site. The site's content pages are generated on the fly when requested by the browser.
Here's one such tutorial for migraiton of 1.5 to 3.x as mentioned by @sozzled, and as has been indicated, is not an easy straightforward task: viewtopic.php?f=710&t=925100.
Please run the FPA report and post the results here:

Using an extension like https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/j2xml/ will help move Categories Articles users etc. Or Just install a fresh Joomla and copy/paste the Articles.
