Updating Joomla

Post by rconn » Wed Dec 12, 2018 11:07 am

Hi,

I'm using Joomla 3.6.5 on Debian 8 (jessie)
I am not able to use the 'Components > Windows Update' link to update any of my Joomla sites.

I get the following error:
Warning
Update: Could not open update site #6 "Joomla! Update Component Update Site", URL: https://update.joomla.org/core/extensio ... update.xml

To diagnose the issue I ssh'ed into my server and tried to access the site 'update.joomla.org' using a command line web browser 'lynx'.
Using:
The error I then get is:

lynx http://update.joomla.org/core/extension ... update.xml
Looking up update.joomla.org
Making HTTP connection to update.joomla.org
Alert!: Unable to connect to remote host.
lynx: Can't access startfile http://update.joomla.org/core/extension ... update.xml

If I use the same lynx command on another server that runs Debian 9, it returns the xml file.

Any help/ideas would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Rick

Try using the Upload and Update method - download the update package from downloads.joomla.org, then use (under Joomla Update component) the Upload and Update option. Upload the ZIP package, and it should install as usual. If there's any further problems it may be a hosting issue.

It would help if you can use the FPA and post the results to a reply. viewtopic.php?f=714&t=793531

Hi AMurry,

Thank you for your reply.

I know how to manually update Joomla, I am looking for clues as to what is the best way to diagnose why a web browser also cannot connect to http://update.joomla.org/core/extension ... update.xml

It is my own server.

It has me stumped, traceroute hits 30 hops without getting there.

From debian 9 it works, and responds to pings.
From debian 8 it does not work, and does not reply to pings.

Both servers are pinging the same ip.
