Update to 3.9.23 stops with Error: Invalid login
3.9.22 to .23
I receive on two sites a message like .
There was stop on 40,9% and 0%.
It was the same with the following attempts.
The same with: Extensions > update sites.
Previously an automatic update always worked flawlessly.
Help please.

Do you have the FTP layer turned on if so, turn it off (global config setting). I think that's what's causing the password error.
Refer https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Global_con ... ings_Group and ensure there's no values for these settings and that FTP is off.

You might need to retype in the ftp password in global config and then save & close. That is if that layer is enabled.

Unfortunately, I am a layman and I cannot follow your advice.
I will try to use FTP as described in other answers to my question.

No, I've never used ftp to update Joomla. In the configuration -> system -> server is FTP deactivated.
------
But I can try to change an installation method to
1) hybrid (ftp if necessary) or
2) Write files using ftp.
What should I choose?
---
And one more question, please.
If the Joomla update stopped at 40-60 percent or did not start (hung at 0%), will my site work correctly? Or will there be some kind of inconsistency in the system?

Re: Update to 3.9.23 stops with Error: Invalid login
The FPA instructions at https://forumpostassistant.github.io/docs are relatively easy to follow if you have access to FTP or File Manager, which is usually found in the cPanel provided by your host.
The purpose of sharing the FPA results here is to make the configuration available in a standard and detailed enough format to help resolve obscure errors which would otherwise require full admin access to the back end and the cPanel.

Hard to tell. Check the contents of the log file administrator/logs/joomla_update.php. Post relevant messages here for advice.
Did you create a full backup before starting the update? Rather than backing up the filesystem and the database separately, many website owners use for example Akeeba Backup to produce one backup file, which can be stored offsite in one of the cloud services.

Re: Update to 3.9.23 stops with Error: Invalid login
Hi
Thanks to everyone who tried to help me.
I solved the update problem as follows using Akeeba Backup.
1. Using Extplorer, I uploaded the update file to the root segment of the site.
2. I also uploaded there Kickstart.php
3. I executed in a browser Site-URL/kickstart.php with the Joomla_3.9.23-Stable-Update_Package file.zip
The site has been updated, and everything is working (that is, so far no problems have appeared). I hope the update was complete and correct.
Thanks

Something is wrong here. Joomla is updated from Components - Joomla! Update.lemurex wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 6:19 pmI solved the update problem as follows using Akeeba Backup.

I was having the same issue as you lemurex, so I tested this solution on a demo site and it worked. It shouldn't work but it did! Like you, I have no errors on the front or backend. Still reluctant about using this technique on a live commercial site but I haven't found any other workable solutions yet so think I may have to give it a go. Re: Update to 3.9.23 stops with Error: Invalid login
Again, please follow the official Joomla 3.x tutorial Updating from an existing version.
The Kickstart utility restores backup files created by Akeeba Backup, but it does not update Joomla. Only Joomla! Update does the update properly.
