See a similar case here: viewtopic.php?f=710&t=988248
In that case, I spent a couple of hours discussing the matter (via videoconference) with the person who is facing the same kind of issue. Although we weren't able to identify the specific cause in his case, I am guessing that the issue arises because that person is trying to run the update procedure behind some kind of network "filtering" or firewall. The main cause of these AJAX errors is usually narrowed down to network connectivity. I still haven't heard back from that person to learn if he was able to update his J! software from a different location (i.e. his computer at home as opposed to the computer he uses at work).
No matter how one tries to use the Joomla! Update procedure, you can't update J! without a stable, "unfiltered" network connection.
@reverendwolf: is your PC located behind a firewall? Are you running any kind of anti-virus software on your computer?

Thank you I searched but didn't see anything I thought was the same. No to both question. Satellite internet connection.sozzled wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 2:09 amSee a similar case here: viewtopic.php?f=710&t=988248

Consider copying to localhost and update locally?
