Bilingual site, Main Menu can't be deleted or hidden

Postby Dan13914 » Tue May 15, 2018 6:02 pm

Dear friends,

This is my volunteer work to help people.
I created a website using cloudbase3 with Gantry 4 framework.

http://hoangtam.csseast.org/index.php/

I couldn't get rid of the build-in Main Menu (ENG-British ).
It always shows up with HOME menu ( Language = All) whenever clicking on Viet or ENG-US menu.

I did try to delete Main Menu but failed with the below message.

Error
Joomla\CMS\Table\MenuType: :delete failed - Some menu items or some menu modules related to this menutype are checked out by another user or the default menu item is in this menu.

The HOME menu under Main Menu can't be unpublished.
×
Error
Save failed with the following error: Can't unpublish default home.

Please help with an instruction or send me a private message, I can give the admin password so you can fix it directly.

Thank you for your time,
Dan

You have to have a main menu with the default menu item, but you don't have to have that menu in a module that's assigned anywhere.

So if you have English US and a Vietnamese content - you should have one menu with all the English(us) items, another menu with all the Vietnamese item and a third Main Menu without any language specified.

Three menus
Main Menu - Default
Main Menu - US
Main Menu - Vietnamese

Two menu modules
Main Menu - US
Main Menu - Vietnamese

Does that help?

but you don't have to have that menu in a module that's assigned anywhere.

I don't understand this part.

If you click on the link below, you will see it is default in a menu without any module assigned.
http://hoangtam.csseast.org/index.php/vi/?tp=1

Because the language in Main Menu (EN-Br) was set to All, it overlaps the other languages ( EN-us, Vi).
Therefore, only HOME menu appears regardless what language I click.

It is three menus now
Main (default)
English
Viet

If I can set English as a default menu, I think I can delete or unpublish the Main menu.

Thank You very much.
I will send you the password of the site so you can examine it.

The issue must be that you are using a template that does not use a module to show the menu. That template may not be multi-language compatible. Can you set which menu to show in the template style? Then create a style for each language and assign to the menu items. Otherwise, you have to contact the template developer.

.
Yes, no module associated.
Can you set which menu to show in the template style?

Yes, I set to English now. Thing looks good but the menu disappears when clicking to Viet language.
Then create a style for each language and assign to the menu items.

I do not know. Can you point me to how to so I can learn?

Update: I found information about Cloudbase3 template, and follow and it worked.

I truly appreciate your time and admire your knowledge,

Extensions->Templates->Styles

Select the template and click the "Duplicate" Button.
Open the new style and adjust the settings. Assign to menu items of the language.

How can I make the connection between the two styles, English and Vietnam, on one website?

Thank You,

Dan

The Menu Assignment tab in the styles.
