Fonts how to change?

Post by UYGHURMEN » Tue Dec 04, 2018 6:45 pm

My language script is Arabic alphabet system, right to left. and my font in windows very ugly looking. so I changed all to my fonts in CSS file. In my computer good looking - change my font. But I open my site in other computer fonts didn't change, still ugly looking, original fonts.
How to do that? Why CSS changes not effect to the site?

This means the fonts you defined are not present in these other computers OSes.
The only way to get different results are:
OR
choose Unicode fonts which are likely to be present on the majority of computers
For the Arabic/Persian script, Tahoma is said to be much better looking than Arial.

OR
load some specific google Fonts which do contain the Arabic script.

Hi UYGHURMEN

To use the new font on your site, you need to import fonts in CSS.
Because the fonts that are in your computer are not on other computers!
To import fonts in CSS, you must first select the font that has the ability to import into the CSS.
To find Arabic web fonts, you need to search such a word in Google: arabic web fonts.
Use up to two fonts on your site.
Because every font increase your page size & that is damaging to SEO.
The files of a web font are usually 3 , 4 or 5.
webfont.eot, webfont.svg, webfont.ttf, webfont.woff ...

By placing a code similar to the code below, you can load and use the corresponding font at the beginning of the css file.

Code: Select all

@font-face {
  font-family: 'MyWebFont';
  src: url('webfont.eot'); /* IE9 Compat Modes */
  src: url('webfont.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'), /* IE6-IE8 */
       url('webfont.woff2') format('woff2'), /* Super Modern Browsers */
       url('webfont.woff') format('woff'), /* Pretty Modern Browsers */
       url('webfont.ttf')  format('truetype'), /* Safari, Android, iOS */
       url('webfont.svg#svgFontName') format('svg'); /* Legacy iOS */
}

Code: Select all

body {
  font-family: 'MyWebFont', tahoma, sans-serif;
}

Thanks your answer.
I have some .eot fonts on directory public-hotmail, and some .ttf fonts.
I change to my fonts in the code specific places, but didn't copy to CSS file. Because there are many CSS file, so one more time ask you which file paste those codes? all CSS file? or what? and which line?

You have to load the fonts.
Also it is not a good idea to add many webfonts.
Just add for example "Alpida_Unicode System"

https://www.onlinewebfonts.com/download ... b986685481

This means you may need to add in the head of your page:

Code: Select all

<link href="//db.onlinewebfonts.com/c/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481?family=Alpida_Unicode+System" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>
and then Import the font in your main template css

Code: Select all

@import url(//db.onlinewebfonts.com/c/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481?family=Alpida_Unicode+System);
and add the font face definition

Code: Select all

@font-face {font-family: "Alpida_Unicode System";
    src: url("//db.onlinewebfonts.com/t/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481.eot");
    src: url("//db.onlinewebfonts.com/t/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481.eot?#iefix") format("embedded-opentype"),
    url("//db.onlinewebfonts.com/t/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481.woff2") format("woff2"),
    url("//db.onlinewebfonts.com/t/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481.woff") format("woff"),
    url("//db.onlinewebfonts.com/t/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481.ttf") format("truetype"),
    url("//db.onlinewebfonts.com/t/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481.svg#Alpida_Unicode System") format("svg");
Then use for example in your classes:

Code: Select all

font-family: 'Alpida_Unicode System',Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;

"font-family" _ that line I already did, and in my computer shown very nicely. My problem is: .eot fonts url.
Can you make a example use my eot font? and my .ttf font?
I agree your suggestion about use only one font.
All my .eot fonts and .ttf fonts uploaded on main directory: public_hotmail.
Give me a example line use one of my fonts, please.

I am not familoiar with that "onlinewebfonts.com"

Code: Select all

<link href="//db.onlinewebfonts.com/c/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481?family=Alpida_Unicode+System" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>
Should be, normally, added in <head> of the index.php of your template. But it looks like the code provided on that site does not contain a "https:"

Normally this can be done as a straight code or, in Joomla core, by adding the following code before the `<!DOCTYPE html>`

Code: Select all

JHtml::_('stylesheet', 'https://db.onlinewebfonts.com/c/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481?family=Alpida_Unicode+System');
But you say you added the font files in your repository which I don't understand. A web font is fetched on the web, not locally.

When we use a google font, we just add for example

Code: Select all

<link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans" rel="stylesheet" />
and the font is fetched from that google site url when necessary.

Yes, I did:
"<link href="//db.onlinewebfonts.com/c/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481?family=Alpida_Unicode+System" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>" This line I pasted in index.php file (but I not sure which line should be);
And "@import url(//db.onlinewebfonts.com/c/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481?family=Alpida_Unicode+System);" this line I pasted to template.css file, but shown on side error sign, mouse on that sign shown the message said: this line not here... something like that, and I changed line many different places all same result;
and last "@font-face {font-family: "Alpida_Unicode System";
src: url("//db.onlinewebfonts.com/t/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481.eot");
src: url("//db.onlinewebfonts.com/t/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481.eot?#iefix") format("embedded-opentype"),
url("//db.onlinewebfonts.com/t/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481.woff2") format("woff2"),
url("//db.onlinewebfonts.com/t/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481.woff") format("woff"),
url("//db.onlinewebfonts.com/t/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481.ttf") format("truetype"),
url("//db.onlinewebfonts.com/t/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481.svg#Alpida_Unicode System") format("svg");" those lines pasted to template.css file about from 111-line; those not shown any error message, but under the line appeared error sign.
And one more question: in Google fonts may be not have my fonts?

You have to load the fonts.
Also it is not a good idea to add many webfonts.
Just add for example "Alpida_Unicode System"

https://www.onlinewebfonts.com/download ... b986685481

This means you may need to add in the head of your page:

Code: Select all

<link href="//db.onlinewebfonts.com/c/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481?family=Alpida_Unicode+System" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>
and then Import the font in your main template css

Code: Select all

@import url(//db.onlinewebfonts.com/c/15f5e496b7e76cb8f8dcc7b986685481?family=Alpida_Unicode+System);
Hi, Sir
I checked onlinewebfonts.com, there have my language's font of this: UKIJ Tuz Tom
How to put this font? How is the code that? and url of this font?
Can you write line?

Because my font is on my public-html directory, so I put that line as: link href="//../fonts?family=Alpida_Unicode+System" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/;
And shown error sign, said not expected T_STRING. I don't know what is the T_STRING?
