Language switcher not working.
Joomla version: 3.8.5
No plugins installed, and no templates. SImply using the built in templates that came with Joomla.
I've set up a basic multi lingual Joomla site with four languages, Swedish, Finnish, English and Norwegian. Everything seems to be set up correctly, and if i manually change the link to show the different sites, everything seems to be working OK.
The Language switcher does however not show any flags. If I change the configuration so the language switcher shows a pulldown menu, the menu comes up, but there are no languages to select from in the menu.
In other words I can select language manually, but not by using the language selector, only by changing the prefix in the link.
I turned on the language debug mode, but I don't get any errors. in the consol. There are however two languages installed which are not used on the site. English (GB) and Polish (PL) both can not be removed. Neither are set up to be content languages.
Anyone with any good ideas ??

Re: Language switcher not working.
Check the Language Status Administrator Module.
Something is missing the the Multi-Language Setup. The Status Module will show what.
Do you have a Default Menu Item for each Language (shown with a flag in menu manager)?

Re: Language switcher not working.
Thanks for the tip. That wasn't in the guide I was using. Seems to be the solution as I've got the Norwegian and US flag up. Now just to get the Swedish and FInnish ones up.

hi
having the same issue - langauges not appearing in language switcher
in modules/administrator i actually have 2 'Multilanguage status' modules - both are enabled, but there is nothing displayed when I open - where are The Status Module results displayed?

First, no use to have 2 instances of this module.
Second see viewtopic.php?f=711&t=958595#p3511885 for the way to use it

Re: Language switcher not working.
Sorry, but I'm stuck with this too.
An error appears when I try to associate a default menu with its corresponsing language. The error says that the default menu must be set to ALL languages.
How/where do I set a language per individual default menu?
Thanks,

Re: Language switcher not working.
When you had a single language site, there is a default menu item marked with a star. You keep this menu item in the menu tagged to all languages. This menu will not be used on the multi language site.
Create a new menu for each language and tag to language.
Create new menu items in the new languages and tag.
Then you can assign one menu item in each language menu as default. It will be marked with a flag.

Re: Language switcher not working.
Thank you Per.... I finally figured it out. You basically have to create a dummy MENU for ALL LANGUAGES that isn't used. Not apparent. But I got it to work.
