multi language website

Post by Ruud Janssen » Wed Mar 28, 2018 6:52 pm

Hello,

Maybe I´m posting in the wrong section of this forum.

I would like to give the visitor of my website the opportunity to view the website in two different languages but I´d like to translate the text myself and not use automated translation.

Which (free) extension do you recommend?

If you want to do the translation yourself, I would suggest using the multilingual feature(s) built into core Joomla!

If you want to try it out, you could install Joomla! in a test environment and while installing it, do not add sample data, install languages and choose to have multilingual feature on along with creation of localised content. Review of the document https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Installing ... _Languages would be of help.

The tutorial is all well and good, and creates a multi-language website, but how do you do one that uses the same routes regardless of language (e.g. http://www.example.com/es/home, http://www.example.com/fr/home)?

Menu items are all "owned" by the menu item list, and there doesn't seem to be a way to put them into a "category" like we can with articles, so that all of the similar items have the same (language-relative) path.

Never mind. The tutorial doesn't go into the fact that each language is "separate" -- although *every* the "All" menu item (which appears to act as the "fallback" if the browser language isn't supported) means that either the All items or each languages' items need to be "different."
