reverse to ONE language

Post by giulio36 » Tue May 08, 2018 12:07 pm

Good day,
I installed Joomla originally with english language default plus italian. I have now several problems probably due to the double language wich actually I do not use. The default url access is http://www.site/en since en is de dfault language. I would like to dropp off english and stay only with Italian (no politics involved). I don'th think is a matter to delet english menu. it does not work. May somebody teach me a list os steps to be performed including menu and menu links delete and various involved plugin handling? Thanks in advance.

Assuming you did setup according to https://docs.joomla.org/Special:MyLangu ... ngual_Site and do have a menu for english and a menu for italian both with their own default landing pages.

in extensions languages -> content language first make "it" the default language.
then disable the "en" language.
in the plugin "System - Language Filter" you set "Language Selection for new Visitors" to "Site Language".
Disable the module "language selector".

This should do and is also easiest to revert back.

Now urls will keep using the "site.com/it/whateverelse/"
Here you may need to make a choice: will you keep it as that is how your pages are indexed in Google or will you drop the "it" as you don't care or update google indexes through webmaster tools, create your redirects using the component....
You can remove the URL language code if you don't mind.

You can also disable the plugin completely but then you need to check that the global default landing page in your menu is set correct. The default is usually in the default set Main Menu (the one with the house icon)...

@giulio36

Are you developing a monolingual site or a multilingual site? If it is a multilingual site, what are the languages that you would like to use?

Please look here
http://multilingual.demojoomla.com/mult ... -tips.html

"Start a multi-language site and then switch to mono-lingual"
Although this demo is for 2.5, same can be done in 3.x
