Automatic language detection of the browser wrong language de-lu /de-de

I have just tested the automatic language selection and found errors in Firefox.

It's about the German languages de-at, de-de, de-li, de-lu

I did a complete reinstallation. I installed all languages. Then I selected automatic browser language detection in the language plugin.

Deleted the entire browser history to simulate a first visit.

And the first time you open the page you always end up with the wrong language.

In the browser is set in each case de-de

If I open the page for the first time with Chrome, then I really land on de-de.

But Firefox opens the language de-lu for Luxembourg instead of de-de.

Where is the error?

Have you checked the default language of Firefox? If has the habit of installing with the wrong (or no) last two letters.

Look at your Firefox language preferences.

Is de-de present?

Hello folks and thanks for your answers.

You're right, in Firefox German is only with [de] and not with [de-de]

But since it's a reinstallation of Firefox, I'm worried that users won't understand why they're being shown the wrong language.

On other pages I call up, the correct language is displayed.

But now I see that these pages only offer one language for the German or French language, for example.

So I will have to think about whether I really offer de-de, de-at, de-ch, de-li, de-lu. Or just one language.

How do you see that?

It's a common problem with firefox. If it's download from places like https://mozilla-firefox.en.softonic.com/download and not the specific language page like https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/new/ ... then it seems to set default as the first 2 letters not the last two.

Came across that problem when installing Joomla a few years ago when installing Joomla. infograf768 pointed out why and I changed the browser setting and Joomla install defaulted tothe correct default language. Not sure if (when visitors browser are set incorrectly) the problem can be overcome on visiting browsers.

I suggest that you carry on as normal and let your visitors view it in the language they have set.

Also, Joomla never promesses that choosing Browser settings will always work.
It will just try to as the tip righfully states.

Thanks, guys. Yes it seems that Firefox only asks for the first 2 letters of a new installation.

But then I wonder why the languages are not changed. As follows:

de-li too li-de

de-lu too lu-de

da-at too at-de

en-gb too gb-en

en-us too us-en

But that's the way it is and most people use chrome. And where the wrong language appears it can changed by language selection. Not really user-friendly.

But my opinion is, this problem is a browser specific problem. I will end the topic and hope Firefox changes it. It would have been better to change them as described above.

Thanks guys.

the possible lang tags you post above make no sense.
I explain:
In a language tag, the first group of letters concerns the language itself and the second group concerns the country code.

de is the language
li is the country code for Luxemburg

de-li is a variant of the German language for Luxemburg.
