several beginner questions
Hello,
I have some beginners questions - I have made some joomla sites before, but I haven't really got into working on the SEO until now.
I also have the feeling that there might be a fundamental problem/mistake I'm making, so I'm not sure what specific question to ask....
The website is https://plandelen.nl. When I google just "plandelen" the website doesn't appear until page 3. It also has taken some strange forms (like including the site owner's surname in the title).
I have verified the website with google and added a sitemap. I'm 90% of the way through adding meta descriptions, keywords, page titles etc.
I've followed tutorials to get the joomla SEO on the right settings. I've checked robots.txt and I think that's OK, checked that we have .htaccess (and not htaccess.txt) and also checked that index.php does not appear in URL.
Much of the content was in modules, but I changed the structure to put it in articles, with a clear category structure. I'm sure the content of the site is also clear and concise, with good keywords, relevant information.
A thing that confused me so I checked with the host/server (he said this should be no problem):
the site was originally called "plandel.nl", but then we were able to get the preferred name "plandelen".
So he said there are several versions: these 2 names, with .nl and with .be (and all these with www.)
He said plandelen.nl is the primary domain name and the others are aliases.
The changes I made mentioned above, I started about 5 days ago, so I was wondering if Google takes this long to register this.
Sorry for the ramble - if someone could point me in a direction to concentrate my efforts, I'd be grateful!
Thanks,
Alex

Re: several beginner questions
There are plenty of things when it comes to SEO.
There is no one-stop cookbook that can lead to success.
Everyone has a different recipe and with proper efforts, it can be worked out properly.
I see all your pages miss the Schema, give a try to this https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... ured-data/
Plus, remember this, apart from all that you do to enhance the SEO, you also need to wait for it to work.
Let us know after you are done implementing the Schema.

Re: several beginner questions
Thank you very much, I will try this extension and let you know.
I find it very strange though - I made a couple of other sites (with same host and joomla) and didn't (yet) do anything at all with the SEO. Yet when I type the exact name of the site in the search, it is one of the first options in google

Oh that's an improvement! And I just checked here, it's no.8 on page 1..
So I guess it just takes time?

Re: several beginner questions
All well and good, but not everyone uses google... More and more people are using safer alternatives, like DuckDuckGo, which I use.
I searched plandelen in DDG (I was curious what it meant, too ), and I found several explanations and some sites using the word plandelen (as in "parts of plans"). Your site came up half way down page three of the results. Which is actually not bad at all for DDG!
(BTW Nice site!)

The fact that an opinion is widely held is no evidence whatsoever that it is not utterly absurd.

Re: several beginner questions
Hi again,
I had a question: I've now installed the component for google structured data and I had a look on the google testing tool- it shows quite a few errors and warnings.
I've been trying to understand what's going on.... is it right that it might have something to do with my template and I have to make adjustments to that?
Thanks,
Alex

Re: several beginner questions
Also remember, you can add it to the full category all at once without a problem. Just follow these steps https://www.tassos.gr/joomla-extensions ... a-to-pages and at the last step (step 4) select the desired categories where you want that Schema to be applied.
I hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Re: several beginner questions
I dont have checked your site but have you created site maps so Google and you can check everything is 100% correct too? there is a good Joomla extension that automate much of these efforts like Jsitemap. It can help you too https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/jsitemap/

Re: several beginner questions
Your site have the wrong language. You have to change the site language from "en-GB" to Dutch.
