Google schema (missing item in breadcrumb list)

Post by bomkallo » Sun Aug 09, 2020 2:51 am

Yo

Google started to spit errors about missing 'item' field in navigation menu in breadcrumblist schema.

The thing is (as far as I read google docs) it comes out because the active breadcrumb element is missing the itemprop 'item' property in blog. Well, in this case it's clear. It's not the url, it's not an active link. Though, to fix it - another span is needed with that 'item' over the name of the breadcrumb item name.

A bit messy ?:) overview:
1. active link looks like: <a itemprop="item"><span ...>name
2. nonactive link: <span>name...
3. proper: <span ...><span itemprop="item">name...

Well I hope the next update will fix it. I'm not going to touch that google [ redacted ] for some time. If I'm wrong, feel free to give me a proper route.

It is difficult to understand what is happening there without having a closer look, but I know that the problem can certainly be fixed with this extension: https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... ured-data/

No offence, @anatom09, but I've used that extension (the free version of it, anyway) and it doesn't do much in the way of adding the relevant itemprop tags for the breadcrumbs module. Sorry. Maybe the paid version does this? I don't know.

hmm... i dont know about the free version, because I've been using the paid version. It has a function to replace any other schema. Maybe ask Tassos about it.

Maybe it does remove "faulty" structured data elements (and we're talking specifically about the breadcrumbs module here) in the pro version and maybe it doesn't. I wouldn't know. I'm only making a general comment in response to

which links to the free version.

However, if the pro version addresses the problem then that's good to know. 8)

Tha google stopped mailing me with these errors since that time. I do remind though, I assume it is a core feature/warning - not a place for third party extensions.

There is an option in the Breadcrumbs Module to not show the last element.
