How to get Google to show the date modified and not the date published?

If I search some of my articles in Google then I often see the Publish date in the search result and not the modified date. Both are set to show on my site. Is it as simple as removing the publish date to get Google to show the more recent date????

It depends on your template-sitemap.xml relationship.

Sometime even without structured data Google knows dates and much more!
