Greetings,

I thing Jcrawler is much better than Xmap, or even the Best in my opinion.
You just do a couple a clicks, and voila, not only u get the sitemap generated, but submitted to the three search engines.

Cheers.

Xmap Features looks cool than JCrawler to me. Is there any limitations in any of these?

JCrawler has had some problems with me personally, it tends to crawl all the modules and extensions as well rather than just the html pages... no way of specifying that either...

I use Xmap on most of my Joomla sites. If you update your content regularly I do recommend Xmap.

I'm not to have the right answer, but I have some experiences to share.
On our Joomla 2.5.9 we have installed and tested:
1. JCrawler
2. Xmap

Than, we have generated the XML sitemap with several services:
1. XML site generator (http://www.w-global.com)
2. Google Sitemap Generator Online (http://www.seoutility.com/it/tools/goog ... rator.aspx)
3. Free SiteMapGenerator (http://www.freesitemapgenerator.com)

It's incredible, but we got all different results, ranging from a minimum of 4 pages scanned, up to more than 3.000. The "4 page result" came with a "Warning" message: only 4 pages were found, but we couldn't understand why it was there.

How is it possible? At the end of the day, you have several SiteMap, but how can you say which is "the good one"? (btw, all those systems/services are very easy to install and use, but if you cannot evaluate their results it's very difficult to decide which is the best).
Ciao
Alessandro

PS. I think that one of the problems it that neither JCrawler, neither Xmap support K2, so the first gives us a result of 4 page, the second stops at 59...

Xmap has been around for a long time and is very well supported by other extension developers. This means more of your website is likely to be indexed as long as you enable the relevant plug-ins.

Jcrawler and Xmap they both automatically create sitemap, both are good. Jcrawler generates Sitemap automatically and submit sitemap into 5 search engines.

One thing you have to remember, at least if you use a crawler based sitemap generator is that many Joomla installations have plugins installed that throttle unknown crawlers.

It is not uncommon to get email support questions that turns out to be caused by the above. You can usually get around it by either lowering crawl rate to a minimum or simply turn off anti-flood (or similar named options) in Joomla plugins.

Use built-in scan preset for Joomla if 403/forbidden/Sh404SEF issues when using A1 Sitemap Generator

RSSEO is very good (rsjoomla.com), including control of the individual crawled pages and whether you want them in the sitemap or not.

It's best to only enable the ones that will be used.

For example, if you don't use Weblinks there's no point enabling the Xmap Weblinks plug-in.

If your Joomla site has a good menu structure that point to all your articles, you can use Xmap component. Xmap can generate a sitemap by using the structure of the site menu.

Xmap doesn't seem to work with 3.x.

http://joomla.vargas.co.cr/en/forum?tas ... 3cca48bda7
I have the same issue.
Is anyone successfully using Xmap with 3.1?

Thanks

Bobby_D wrote:I have the same issue.

hi Bobby_D, wellcome ;)
I'm using Xmap for joomla 3.1.1 (pkg_xmap-2.3.3.zip Xmap 2.3.3)
my sitemap : http://cantral.ir/sitemap
Downloads link:
http://joomla.vargas.co.cr/en/downloads/components/xmap
I would recommend the use xmap !
  • Joomla 3.0 compatible
Now it's possible to include/exclude items directly from the XML sitemap (when logged in as Super User)
Bug fix: Virtuemart not showing all the items on the sitemap
Bug fix: Xmap displaying blank page for XML sitemap
Bug fix: Unable to change menu priority/changefreq using Google Chrome.
Bug fix: all categories content links include all the categories on the sitemap ignoring the selected category
Bug fix: SobiPRO extension wasn't including some entries on the sitemap
Bug fix: Weblink extension was generating wrong links
    Some other small fixes

There's only one that's superior to those mentioned and the support (if required) is excellent.

JSitemap is the sitemap generator extension for Joomla that I prefer.

It did take me some time to get use to it since it worked immediately no need for hard work like the others.
thank you systeman! ;)

After updating to 3.x my site can not install Xmap anymore, even manually.
Jcrawler is not available for 3.x.
