Page Title in article/category without Menu item

Post by usovdm » Fri Nov 16, 2012 8:10 am

Hello Joomla Developers. Thanks very much for your great work!

I writed plugin for insert field "page title" in product/category edit form for Joomla 2.5 and updating it for Joomla 3.0 at that moment.

But I can't understand, why don't you do specially this field by default? Why only Menu item can have "page title" field?

You can set title in article as well, as well as section and catagories.

article title not equal page title article. Individual page title in Joomla can set only in menu item.

Not correct, try leaving the title blank in the menu and it should read it from the article instead. If not then something is wrong or I'd advise getting an addon such as ACESEF, or 404SEF

I wrote plugin for "page title" field in article and category because many SEO-specialist want have different title and page title for articles without menu items (for example news). And they don't want install so hard components such as sh404sef or acesef.
So I have question. Why does joomla developers create page title only for menu items SPECIALLY already as minimum 3 years. What logic?

If you create a menu News which links to the category News.... you fill in the meta data within the menu item, or that of the category.

So when they visit news they get that data, upon clicking articles in blog view they will be redirected to those pages where the meta from the articles is read.

There is no need for any addons to do this, if this is what you want to do but addons do not make anything more complicated, the initial setup maybe but after that they maintain themselves if done right, but as I said you don't need addons but makes it easier.

polomintus, can you create menu item "news" (blog of category "news") with page title "news title"?
Then add a new article "news 2012.11.27" into category "news".
What title do you have on article "news 2012.11.27" page?
And what should you do if I want to change page title to "title 2012.11.27" and not change original title?

The title of the article will be taken by the name of Article. So yes you can change it at anytime.

You wouldn't want to rename categories if that's what your asking, I'm some what confused.

With an extension you have more flexibility to make these changes, kinda makes it really easy.

I started this topic with this fact.
And I have only one question. WHY? Why the title of the article will be taken by the name of Article and can't be different (such as menu item) already 4 years? It is a problem (with each site) for our SEO-specialist.

PS About plugins: do you know more lighter and easier plugin than http://myext.eu/en/j25-articles-title?

If you don't want to use an addon you just have to turn the sef on and rename the htaccess file to .htaccess then when you write the article title underneath it where it says alias- this will be your page name, it doesn't need to be on the sidebar like in menu items...

alandapainter, are you joke?
Page title != page url (alias)
And I didn't say that I don't want to use addons.

I want only to know logic, why Joomla developers didn't add "page title" field in article in J1.0, J1.5, J1.6, J1.7, J2.5, J3.0.

P.S. Please somebody answer on a topic subject (not flame).
