Is Joomla the right CMS for SEO ?

Post by guyoz » Fri Feb 15, 2013 11:32 am

Hiya.

From my latest experience with seo, i actually loved how WP is doing, and can feel the "love" from google when using WP.

Unfortunately, when using Joomla, something is a bit off..

What do you think about that ?

Cheers,

the question is how you configured SEF setting in joomla. there is several basic options in joomla 2.5 and they work pretty cool and absolutely great for me. my sites are number one in google results about my industry.
besides there is plenty of extension you can install and use theme as nice as basic joomla configuration. but I definitely recommend rename htacces.txt file to .htaccess and use apache mod_rewrite function in joomla. add html to end of url.
as you said LOVE about WP. I proudly say and write joomla is my LOVE CMS and no one!
Lovely CMS? joomla!

It definitely depends on how you have it set up. I've seen some installs where it's excellent, some where it isn't as much. The same can be said for Wordpress too.

Thanks for the reply.
I guess following your advice is wise, yet i dont think naming url endings with .html will be beneficial.
I need to learn bit by bit about plugins and best practices.

Cheers !

You Can Use any CMS and get great seo results if you work it... No CMS is going to automatically rank you well out of the box. To really rank well you should customize your Joomla Template & Urls to match your content.

joomla is as good as wordpress for seo purpose, the only problem is that if you're used to wp it could be hard to learn how to use properly another platform.
seo is not easy those days, especially if you're competing for big keywords

I'm a bit frustrated by the many different URLs Joomla created, you really have to monitor it in Google webmastertools for dc.

I 'm trying to SEO a greek Joomla site with K2 installed
(http://andrianos.gr/gr/proionta/hliothermika-susthmata).
Its horrible.
and the problem is not Joomla, but K2, which creates multiple urls for every item.

I think that if u use Joomla only with SEO extensions you are OK

Hiii I think Joomla can be Search Engine friendly more so than other content management systems provided it is handled by SEO experts with experience in optimizing Joomla pages.Joomla is among the best the world has ever seen in terms of CMS. And for the perennial doubters, Joomla can be Search Engine friendly provided it is handled by SEO Experts who know how to maximize Search Engine results for Joomla websites.

It actually depends on you on what to use. For me, Joomla is seo friendly since I know my way around Joomla. But for starters, wordpress is another cms option.

Joomla is excellent, just in wordpress is faster and maybe more easy to set well SEO.
If you will play with Joomla you will see excellent SEO also.
With my experiences, if I do something in wordpress it is easy, simply and fast. In joomle more complicated, but I can do more with Joomla all the time, in wordpress I feel limited little bit

I think joomla is the best building CMS web page but Mostly i preferred WordPress and also Magento framework with regard to building dynamic content website because doing so have great functionality and all to easy to operate. So make ones first website from it.

Joomla Overview
The biggest difference between Joomla and WordPress, as stated by many who have reviewed these two content management systems, is that WordPress was originally designed as a blogging platform that later acquired CMS capabilities for more than just blogs. Joomla, however, has always been a true content management system.

Within Joomla’s administrator, under Global Configuration, there are native (not plug-in) SEO Settings that simply need to be activated. By default the search engine friendly URLs are set to “no.” By simply clicking “yes” Joomla creates search engine friendly URLs for you, without the need to install third-party plug-ins. In any case, every CMS has its pros and cons, I guess I’m just used to Joomla.

I must say that the support for Joomla plugins/components from most merchant is certainly been “Gold” to me

This is just my two cents
Joomla is just as good as Wordpress for SEO. After setting up Joomla for “search engine friendly” url's, and just doing the seo basics i.e. keyword research, good page titles, good meta descriptions for each page, good content on each page, and small amount of link building back to my site, not only was my Joomla site on page 1 of Google, but was always in the top 4 for my keywords. FWIW
