Removing index.php from website path

Post by cereju » Sat Feb 23, 2013 9:22 pm

Hi everyone,

So I browsed google for a while and found out that in order to remove de index.php from my website's URL I had to Global Configuration -> SEO Settings -> Use URL re-writting. I did that, also I edited the .htaccess file by removing the "#" before "RewriteBase /". When I open some of my content, the URL is correct, but the page is invalid -> Not Found

The requested URL </mywebsite/desired-content> was not found on this server.

My Operative System is Ubuntu-linux 12.04 and I'm using apache2.

Any more info I can give feel free to ask.

Best regards

(a) Hope you are using the Joomla! supplied file .htaccess

(b) What happens if you do not uncomment the line #RewriteBase in the file .htaccess

(c) What is your site's URL?

Hi, thanks for your response,

a) Yes, I renamed the htaccess.txt to .htaccess

b) It does absolutely nothing

c) I'm working locally, but it is localhost/alpwebsite, when I go to another page i.e. contacts, I want it to be http://localhost/alpwebsite/contacts instead of http://localhost/alpwebsite/index.php/contactos. But when I change the SEO settings to enable URL re-writting it gives the message above.

Is mod_rewrite installed on the web server?

Yes I think so, I searched that on the web and when I use the command "a2enmod rewrite"
The output is:
Module rewrite already enabled

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.php -f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !/$
