Is there anyway to completely block non-sef urls?

Post by andy fev » Fri Oct 19, 2018 3:52 pm

If I enter a non-sef url while SEF is enabled, the pages show up. The pages also show up if I use a url as component/content/article/25. This seems like a possibility for duplicate URLs in searches.

Is there a method to re-route those urls to the sef only?

The search results will always show (if one exists) the sef url. You may also find extensions that search based on menus?

Thanks for the tip @effrit. I'll see if that ext does the job.

@webdongle I haven't yet seen a duplicate url penalty yet, but I am concerned that those "bad" urls could potentially be returned.

If you are referring to search engine results then submit a sitemap. Although the question must be asked ... how important are the search engine results (for almost infinite words/phrases) compared to brand awareness from advertising ?

@webdongle, I just don't want the penalties popping up later. As I said, I don't know that anything will go wrong, but with multiple URLs available to a single destination, it triggers concern.
