sitemap generated by route66 gives 404 error

Anyone has any pointers why this is happening? I just created a standard sitemap, made sure it is published, included all articles and menu items and gave it a name. When I clicked on the generated link it gave me a 404 error and when I tried to submit it to google console the same message was returned by google. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using multiple languages at your site?

Could you try to open the sitemap URL without nice SEF URL?
so something like https://example.com/index.php?option=co ... temap&id=1
(replace com_component with the name of the sitemap extension)

Maybe you could try another sitemap extension?
