Multilingual or subdomains / subdirectories?

Post by Filiali » Sat Aug 29, 2020 2:31 pm

I want to add two languages to an spanish site. Of course multilingual is the easiest choice, but wich one is the best for SEO? Because you need at least subdirectories to separarte them by language in Search Console. But i don't know if a subdirectory is enough, subdomains are better, or i don't really need them

as far as I know, when using a generic or sponsored .tld like .com, .org, .bike... a folder name would do ok.

domain.com/es/articulo
domain.com/en/article

would make enough difference in generic searches... (just for the languages)
you can include countries by making the directory xx-XX like

domain.com/es-ES/articulo (Spain)
domain.com/es-AR/articulo (Argentina)
domain.com/en-GB/article (Great Britain)
domain.com/en-US/article (USA)

if you do use country .tld's use that to target the countries specific.
There are plugins that can help you there I believe. https://github.com/YireoJoomla/plg_syst ... agedomains is one I used in the past. There probably are new ones available in the JED.
