Adding archive to a 2nd index.php

Post by Bob_Sprague » Sat Jun 30, 2018 8:39 pm

I publish YourArlington.com, a Joomla news site. I would like to add a separate archive page that includes all of the module positions in my current template. Basically, I want to move to a new page everything from the archive menu (about 3/4th down) through the three columns of subject headings. That page would be a second instance of index.php (with another name), unless there is another way to do this.

Can what I hope for be done? Do any of you have suggestions. Thank you.

I already use the archive module. What I am trying to do is move links to all archived info to a separate page that has all of the module positions as the main page. Is that possible?

Use a Menu Item of type Archived Articles?

I do that now with respect to the archive menu you see 3/4th down the main page.

What I am asking is whether I can establish a second main page with all modules positions. Is that possible?

Add "?tmpl=component" to the url. That will render the page using the file component.php in the template.
You can add your own files. The files takes the same JDOC statements as the index.php.

I hope this helps.

I have been playing with this suggestion, and I can't get it to work. I created a test page called https://yourarlington.com/arlington-arc ... hives.html (viewable by super users).

How does one add add "?tmpl=component" to that URL?

Another way is to duplicate your homepage template style then to create a menu item called archive and assign new template to the archive menu item.

I have done as you suggest, but the archived menu assigned to a duplicate template is not displaying at https://www.yourarlington.com. It should be showing up across the bottom, between the main stories and the footer. I do have all relevant elements set to published for the public. The menu selected is Content/Horizontal. Using Advanced Module Manager, I can choose the template. Am I missing something?

Take a look at my test site: http://arlingtonmanews.com/ Scroll down to Archive (a series of links via JUX CSS3 Mega Menu) and 3 Raxo test modules below that.

That is the information that I want to put on a separate page and menu as described earlier.

Do you have something like this on a separate page?

Nope. That's what is not displaying. See earlier thread for details about the steps taken.

Sorry the right question would be "do you want to have something like the picture above on a separate page?"

Add ?tp=1 to your address and see your module positions (http://arlingtonmanews.com/?tp=1) you will see a picture like this
Untitled-1.jpg
See there is a module position at the bottom (position-26). You should have a position like 26 and 3 other positions under it. Howewer as I see you do not have a configuration like this on your template. I think you should edit your template and create positions like this or you should bring the position9 -10-11 under the position 26. That usually means to edit index.php of template but not always.I think your template is created using artisteer. I am not familiar with artisteer templates but see if there is any module positions on your template's index.php. Then change your menu module to position-26. You will complete the first step.

Step 2 create an archive menu item assign menu module and raxo modules only that menu item. Unassign all other modules that you want not to be there.

Thanks for this offer. I have made some progress in doing what you suggest, but I am not all the way there. See the link titled "YourArlington in the last year" at http://arlingtonmanews.com/index.php/ below the left-hand column. Click that link, and I get the module series I seek. Not displayed is the overall archive menu displayed in an earlier screen shot in this thread. Both menus involved are at position 26.

Question (bear with my ignorance): How do I download a copy of the test template, which includes a copy?

If you are using ftp download template by ftp program. If you don't then install a file manager like mijoftp, extplorer or phoca commander via joomla admin panel thus you can see and manage your files on admin area.
