Astroid is alive!

Post by Chacapamac » Sun Dec 19, 2021 2:10 pm

To all my Joomla friends;

JoomDev decide recently & shockingly to go back, after many years, to be a service company????

I thank JoomDev for, at least, releasing Astroid as a public domain software to the community.
I still don’t understand why they didn't keep the jewel that Astroid is (if you compare it to the other Joomla frameworks).

I work with Joomla from the 1.5 eras and I test for the last 3 years all the big Joomla Framework Name to replace my trusted RocketTheme (for 12 years) that wasn’t responding anymore to what I demand of a Joomla Framework. As a result of these 3 years of deep testing, I find Astroid to be the most modern & flexible Joomla framework today, from far.

The good news is that multiple people and firms seem to think like me and refuse to let Go.

Read This —> https://issueexplorer.com/issue/joomdev ... mework/231
Astroid seem to power now more than 20 templates at https://www.templaza.com
• They even fork the project on Github at https://github.com/templaza/astroid-framework
• They also update the framework and templates zero & one to be compatible with Joomla 4

They are now at version 2.5.11 - Releases & changelogs here—> https://github.com/templaza/astroid-framework/releases.

You can read Templaza blog post on the revival of Astroid —> https://www.templaza.com/blog/important ... ework.html

Now, a quote from Sonny from Templaza
Hi Joomler friends,
I am Sonny from TemPlaza.com.
I have been working with Astroid Framework, since May 2019.
I discussed with Naveen and Chaten about this framework. And we go ahead to take care of Astroid.
We have 20+ templates based on Astroid. You can check them here https://www.templaza.com/joomla-templates.html

Everyone who want to update/continue with Astroid can download framework at https://github.com/templaza/astroid-framework

We updated it to v2.5.5 with Bootstrap 5.
All of you are welcome. Joomlers
Greets,
Sonny

Thanks a lot for the info. This is good news, indeed. I was trying so hard with a template based on Helix (at least the current stable) and it's causing (and costing) me trouble. Thank you Templaza for a valuable contribution for a wonderful work that has been started by Naveen at JoomDev. I wish them all the best in their new found model.

I personally deep test Helix, T4, Gantry (Gantry was my framework from 2008) and all the other big frameworks (for more than 2 years) and Astroid is the simply the most flexible and modern framework available for Joomla today.

Also, Both Template Zero & One are also Updated.

After updating from Last JOOMDEV to the new Templaza Astroid, you can trash all JOOMDEV “Update Sites” in Joomla, anyway they are not link to anything anymore. Be sure to keep the Temlaza Astroid one’s.

Can anyone help me to understand what's happening here? So has someone continued to develop JoomDevs platform?

Since they dropped thousands of customers in the deepest of holes by suddenly dropping Joomla support and the profound impact this has had on web companies and their customers, there are literally thousands of Joomla users with templates that no longer work and JD built websites that cannot be upgraded to J4.

I have a ton of client sites running JD templates and no way of fixing them, even reached out to a developer who basically said you would be better off just moving to something else entirely!

So what's the deal here with Astroid and JD templates?

I agree with you. It was a shock for many people to view Astroid as the most modern and flexible framework available on Joomla. I was one of them. Luckily, Joomdev leaves Astroid and Joomdev products in the public domain for everybody to use.

Some developers like Sonny Lee from Templaza and others were using Astroid as a base for their templates business and were already participating in Astroid development for years. They talk with Chetan (Founder of Joomdev) and decide to branch Astroid to a new future. I’m helping them since with my modest possibilities.

To update Astroid with the last Joomdev (Version 2.5.4)
For everybody to use on Github
Repository —> https://github.com/joomdev/Astroid-Framework
Last 33 releases —> https://github.com/joomdev/Astroid-Framework/releases

TO UPDATE TO THE NEW ASTROID — (Version 2.5.17) (and Templates Zero & One)
For everybody to use on Github
Repository —> https://github.com/templaza/astroid-framework
Last releases —> https://github.com/templaza/astroid-framework/releases

Astroid Framewok also have a brand new home on the web at —> https://astroidframe.work
— For the support download, news and all (Work in progress)
Video documentation is here —> https://www.[youtube].com/channel/UCUHl1u ... -1ke-K4_xg

NEW ASTROID HIGHLIGHTS
• Many fix and great new possibilities
• Bootstrap 5 Compatible
• Built for Joomla 3 and Joomla 4

MK1, you're welcome to help with the project and tell your friends that Astroid is alive and even better than before...

I’m happy to answer any other questions...

Chacapamac, Wow, well I can say first of all it's great there's people looking to keep Astroid alive, it had huge potential and a BIG well done to all of you that's achieved it, I will certainly promote it and give it a run on a new build.

There's been a lot of talk here and there regarding legal proceedings against JoonDev as they are still operating and have legal obligations due to the fact they are operating and running the same company although I understand some involved have parted ways, I know Chetan, to be fair he's an ok guy although he carries a lot of responsibility too. I believe a report has been mentioned regarding a formal request of enquiry to Sh. Vivek,
Deputy Director of E-Gov via the MCA Grievance Cell, was mentioned in my Zoom call I had with some people effected by the drop of Joomla.

What they fail to realise is they have a legal obligation to support for the products they provided on J3, let alone the sudden impact of the work required by them to facilitate the J4 update and the obvious reason why they dropped the community.

I have a major issue with some clients threatening legal action against me, the problem there lies the chain of events leading to the situation and UK law states that if trading here they are legally obligated, although a case will cost in the region of 18k it is pretty much a dead cert that JoomDev will lose any case they think they have as they are solely responsible, regardless of what they say, the way they did it and what they have done to people is simply profound. People paid them and supported them for years, endless endless problems that just went on and on and were hardly ever resolved surely left a bitter pill to swallow, especially for people like us who were such advocates of Astroid and JoomDev.

I anticipate what will happen from here, after reaching out to a couple of developers who looked at the templates the response wasn't great and they felt poor use and JS overkill which was the cause of most of the issues.

I don't suppose there's anyone here who has enough experiece with JoomDev templates to look at one of my client sites running Virtuemart 4 on J3? I have a major problem I need fixing and if it isn't resolved there's definitely going to be a legal case, I really need some help.

JoomDev team have no idea the problems they have caused and the financial impact to my company alone has been astronomical.

• Yes my friend I understand and live myself the stress off Joomdev quitting their Framework development.
Chetan & Joomdev, at least, keep everything in the public space and permit to the framework to be takeover by Templaza & others developers that doing a great job today to better this already fantastic modern framework.

People paid them and supported them for years, endless endless problems that just went on and on and were hardly ever resolved surely left a bitter pill to swallow, especially for people like us who were such advocates of Astroid and JoomDev.

• Personally my experience with Joomdev Framework was and still is rock solid, exceptionally fast and hyper easy to work with and better everyday with the new Astroid Team pumping new versions fast (still another one 13 days ago)

I don't suppose there's anyone here who has enough experiece with JoomDev templates to look at one of my client sites running Virtuemart 4 on J3? I have a major problem I need fixing and if it isn't resolved there's definitely going to be a legal case, I really need some help.
• Go ahead, I can give it a shot myself or better, add your problem to their support page on Github —> https://github.com/templaza/astroid-framework/issues ( I will take a look Myself there.

My suggestions:
• You should update the framework (I put the way to do that in previous posts...)
——> New Releases —> https://github.com/templaza/astroid-framework/releases

• I know the onboard templates Zero & One are fully updated to work with the new Templaza Astroids versions to work perfectly on Joomla 4 and beyond — I just ask the question to the top devs if they have support for the original Joomdev Template ? — I will come back on that here.

I invite you on the NEW Astroid website (work in progress) —> https://astroidframe.work/

Hi,
thank you very much Cahacapamac for your interest in the further development of Joomdev.
I had contacted Joomdev myself to understand how they were going to manage the abandonment of Joomdev for Joomla and they answered me that Stackideas took over the development of the templates.
Do you have any idea when all this will be available?
Do you also know if Stackideas is taking over the development of the PageBuilder?

I will follow this topic with great interest

Lorenzo

Yes, my friend, I was kind of out, finally Messenger is not the place for a good wide support by all members of the New Astroid development.
The best place is Astroid Github Discussion https://github.com/templaza/astroid-fra ... iscussions

Please, you maybe need to freely register to Github to participate — I Join You there ( You can also add my hash ( @Chacapamac ), anyway I should receive your questions, and there the main developers can also participate.

SECURITY!
I have to ask. It is safe to install this program?
Iḿ thinking about all can place a backdor, to infiltrate the site, on any way they want.
What is the security about the code, to secure that it issent obfuscated?

I have to ask. It is safe to install this program?

As you see on my precedent links that the “NEW ASTROID” are really actively updated by the new major developer Sonny Lee (& others) and available as an Open Source (like Joomla) on Github.
https://github.com/templaza/astroid-framework

The framework also have its own website —> https://astroidframe.work/

Sonny Lee was working with the original developers of Astroid, Joomdev and start develop templates for the well know Joomla Template and extensions provider Templaza since 2019.

You can have a bit of history of the transition when Joomdev went other ways and give the project to Open Source on Templaza website —> https://www.templaza.com/blog/important ... ework.html

Joomdev OLD Astroid on Github —> https://github.com/joomdev/Astroid-Framework

Like all Open Source project they are no obfuscated code or other backlinks. Astroid is safe to use and going stronger everyday!

I myself work with Joomla for a long time and have no money incentive in the New Astroid project. I just love Joomla and Astroid is simply the best framework for it.

Hi. I don't think it's the best. I tried and I didn't like it. I also did not like the structure of its code. But this is my subjective opinion. just like your opinion is also subjective ;)

Yes absolutely, I personally take around a year to test the other big framework out there when my trusted Rockettheme went rogue with their own.

What I was searching is a modern, light, fast, ultra flexible and completely Joomla friendly (working in with the core Joomla power) Framework and Astroid bring all that to me. The other frameworks, failed for me, in some of those criteria.
