Can't Exit Burger Menu with Keyboard
Hi
I was wondering if anyone can help. We've recently been audited by the Government Digital Service, and it found an issue with our website.
When using a keyboard board on our website, we can't exit the burger menu.
Does anyone know the best way of resolving this issue. This is the page they've identified: https://sthelens.ac.uk/kcc-course-enquiry
And this is what they have stated:
https://sthelens.ac.uk/kcc-course-enquiry
Issue:1 - WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard: "Once opened, the menu cannot be closed using the keyboard
Issue:2 WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible The keyboard focus becomes lost in the menu on the right hand side of the webpage
Any help will be very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Sam

Re: Can't Exit Burger Menu with Keyboard
Agreed....that's very difficult to navigate (even with a mouse.)
On that contact form page, there's no indication of any menu - not a standard main menu nor the hamburger (off-canvas) menu, unless I reduce my browser window (to approximate a smaller device), but even so, it is difficult to navigate (closing the menu is just one issue I found).
Also the main home page has a different off-canvas menu to the one on the contact us (Course enquiry) page, the link used in your OP.

Yeah. I know there are bigger issues, this is why I am trying to fix them on step at a time.
So first thing I want to do is sort the accessibility of the keyboard issue.
Thanks, Sam

Yes it is however click on any menu item on that page and you goto https://www.knowsleycollege.ac.uk/ which is WP. Is your joomla menu item using an iframe?

Re: Can't Exit Burger Menu with Keyboard
Yeah, I know that. It is a holding page, as we're resolving some issues with our forms on our wordpress site. I know it's not the best, but it currently takes them to our Joomla site to fill in a form, but then they can get back to our wordpress site. I know it's not great but it's a temporary solution.
However, the issue I am trying to resolve doesn't really matter where the links go, it's more that the burger menu comes out, but the user is unable to exit it using their keyboard.

Possibly you are falling foul of cross origin rules? Not my area of competence.

Hi.
It is also happening on this page too - https://sthelens.ac.uk/course-enquiry - Which doesn't have anything to do with linking to and from a WordPress site.
I think it's something to do with the theme coding.
Thanks, Sam
