3.8.1 to 3.8.2 Again Ajax Loading Error
I am tearing my hair with AJAX LOADING ERROR
I have more than 10 joomla sites
Until 3.8.1 --> 8 of my sites was getting this error
(I wrote before and we discussed about them...Nothing solved --> I am uploading manually via FTP)
But my 2 site was not giving this error.
It was easy to upgrade from component/joomla update by one click!
Today (upgrading from 8.1 to 8.2) these 2 sites also getting this error
What is interesting is that: I did nothing to these 2 sites more than 1 year
Now they are giving also AJAX LOADING ERROR
I think this is a kind of JOOMLA bug
Please help me
I can give my sites admin account to one of JoomlaMaster within this forum...No metter
Best Regards

Re: 3.8.1 to 3.8.2 Again Ajax Loading Error
Getting the same error myself, so far today I have updated php, I've set up the php temporary folder, I've turned off extensions one by one, I've tried uploading the file instead of using the live update, and nothing has worked and I am at a loss as to how to proceed.
The error message I am getting says
ERROR:
AJAX Loading Error: Internal Server Error
I am a computer novice so I got all this advice from reading message boards and help files, I really barely know what I am doing, but I can read and follow instructions, so if someone can at least just give me a hint, something to grab onto...

Break? What do you mean by break?Webdongle wrote:That will break your site.
10 sites (J 3.8.1) working now
no problem in frontend side...
To make more clear:
I have 10 joomla sites
In 8 of them I can never use this Joomla Update button (please look below picture)
(If I click on it, it gives Ajax Loading Error) (nevermind) (we talked about them)
I have uploading Joomla upgrade manually via EFT in these sites.
Another 2 of my site never gave any AJAX ERROR
They were working with UPDATE button (never manual file transfer via ftp)
Now; what i want to upgrade from 3.8.1 to 3.8.2 they gave this error
I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY?

Re: 3.8.1 to 3.8.2 Again Ajax Loading Error
You have some folders 777 instead of 755 ... this is indicative of a user needing to change the settings due to a incorrect server setup. That is a big security risk and could also be a sign of being hacked.

the error shown (one of no doubt many ) is Creating default object from empty value in /home/xxxxx/public_html/components/com_realestatemanager/compat.joomla1.5.php on line 87
you show RealEstateManager Featured Fre (2.3.1 Free) , i just downloaded the free version and found (apart from a really bad compat file that it is now version >4.1.0 Free</version>
remove that and any other extensions you havent updated in several years and try again. (backup first)

Re: 3.8.1 to 3.8.2 Again Ajax Loading Error
You have a history of problems and uploading the unzipped update files to the server and overwriting the existing core files. You have been doing that since at least as early as may this year viewtopic.php?f=706&t=950619&p=3474641#p3474641 .
Doing that breaks a site and just causes problems later on because it causes a mismatch of files to database. You have broke your site(s) so far back that it's probably easier and quicker to rebuild your site(s) using a fresh install of Joomla 3.8.2.

Dear Webdongle
You are right (in case of this phenomenon)
but please pay attention: I am talking my 2 sites THAT I NEVER UPLOADED UPDATED FILES...
(this is what i am tearing my hair)
If we talk other 8 site, ur assumption is true...

just treat the site as hacked, it will probably be quicker, follow the delete and replace system,

Re: 3.8.1 to 3.8.2 Again Ajax Loading Error
I had the same Ajax loading error on one of my sites for a time, it made it impossible to update. It turned out to be the .htaccess file, I had a lot of additional rules in it to try and block some common exploits, unfortunately one of them was also blocking Joomla updates.
My hunch is that something similar is affecting you, particularly if it is affecting all your sites, which presumably have different extensions, so it is unlikely to be an extension causing the problem.
You should be able to use the database tools in the Joomla extension manager to fix any database problems that may have arisen, it does not seem to be necessary to rebuild the sites from scratch if you can fix them that way.
Your sites may or may not be hacked, there is no evidence of this either way, and there does not seem to me to be a strong reason for treating your sites as hacked. The Ajax loading issue seems to me to be a separate issue which needs to be fixed in order to prevent you from having the updating problem continually.

i just mentioned treating it as hacked as being the best way to have a clean install with no nasty remnants from previous bodged updates.

it is an easy way to say "it is hacked"
and what is hard to do is: FRESH NEW JOOMLA INSTALL (for all sites)

i didnt say it was hacked, i said to use this procedure. that would also have sorted out the htaccess file.
Webdongle wrote:Your database is your site ... first and foremost make a backup of your database.
All the files do is put/get data to/from the database and display the data on the screen.
Cleaning the site is easy ... just delete all the folders/files. Rebuilding the site is easy ... just install a fresh Joomla to a empty database and install 3rd party extensions then edit the configuration.php.
Before you ask what other users ask. No there is no real alternative ... you need to delete all folders/files.
Here is a summary of what you need to do
Step #f is simply installing Joomla and 3rd party extensions to an empty database so you get fresh files. Then connect the files to the database that has your data. That gives you your site back. The rest cleans the site and helps keep it secure.
- Run the fpa and post the results in this forum
- Uninstall any untrusted/unwanted 3rd party extensions and Templates https://vel.joomla.org/live-vel
- Delete all the files on the server
- Scan your computer and all computers that have server or Joomla admin access
- Change Passwords
- Install Joomla (of the same version) to a new database. Install up to date 3rd party extensions (that are not on the VEL) then edit the configuration.php to connect to the original database. Update Joomla if you have and old version
- Change your Joomla SU/Admin Passwords and check the users/groups/access levels are correct and not been tampered with. Update your Joomla and run the fpa again

Re: 3.8.1 to 3.8.2 Again Ajax Loading Error
If you see this guide viewtopic.php?t=946026 how you can recover your site from a hack, in reality it s not exactly a fresh install as your old database in the end will bring you all your data, for example articles, categories, menuitems, modules etc. That s why @Webdongle point in the begin of this quide " Your database is your site" and with this you will fix your problem for sure.c a g a t a y wrote:it is an easy way to say "it is hacked"

Re: 3.8.1 to 3.8.2 Again Ajax Loading Error
Has anyone solved this yet?
I had this problem 18 months ago. The only way to solve it was to take a back-up of my live domain, install it to a different domain name on my VPS, do the update there, take a back-up from there, and finally use this back-up to install the site on my live domain name.
About 12 months ago, I magically stopped seeing Ajax error messages when updating so could update without a problem.
for the last two updates, the Ajax error message has appeared again. I'm unable to go from 3.8.1 to 3.8.3.
I've done all the things I can find when searching for Ajax errors but no success.
Any other ideas?

As i understand you may have permission issue in the host account of this domain. As you have vps you can try to fix the permissions in this domain from the root folder otherwhise back up your joomla, delete the host account of this domain and create a new host account for this domaintheteacher999 wrote:

Then the cause of your problem is your Hosting server because your site had no problems on another server, So there is nothing for Joomla to fix.theteacher999 wrote:...

Re: 3.8.1 to 3.8.2 Again Ajax Loading Error
Today I solved my AJAX LOADING ERROR problem
Please prepare your nuts, i will tell you everything what happened
When i gave up in to joomla upgrade, coincidentally, I saw a file is missing in this folder
/httpdocs/administrator/components/com_joomlaupdate
The file is: restore.php
I asked my hosting company and they said: This file is stuck in the server firewall...We close it
After that: I turned UPGRADE button and upgrade progress started and no Ajax Error
What is interesting is that: In this joomla forum, i wrote hundred messages about this Ajax Error and no-one talked about this phenomenon
Please turn this topic to SOLVED
Regards

Re: 3.8.1 to 3.8.2 Again Ajax Loading Error
The file permissions of 644 is what fixed this issue for me. I connected to my server via SSH, and navigated to administrator/components/com_joomlaupdate and then typed:
chmod 644 restore.php
chmod 644 restore_finalisation.php
chmod 644 joomlaupdate.php
This may or may not be necessary, depending on who your hosting provider is.
This is related to the fact that the entire site will not function unless I do:
chmod 644 index.php
and
chmod 644 administrator/index.php
chmod 644 restore.php
chmod 644 restore_finalisation.php
chmod 644 joomlaupdate.php
This may or may not be necessary, depending on who your hosting provider is.
