Suspicious search terms

Post by ctdh » Wed Mar 17, 2021 9:37 pm

It looks like some hackers are using a simple search to identify possible Joomla! targets.
A quick review in my Google Search Console shows a number of searches that resulted in a page impression had the search term:
"please enter the email address for your account. a verification code will be sent to you. once you have received the verification code, you will be able to choose a new password for your account."
-This is the standard login phrase on most Joomla! sites.

You might want to consider reducing your profile by editing the phrase.

Sadly, it was one the better performing search terms for my site! :-(
Maybe it was SEO jocks looking for business? Either way, editing the common login phrase can only be a benefit.

Are you asking how to change the text string concerning the reset of password referred to above?

You can change that specific text string by creating a language override. See the documentation,
https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Language_O ... _in_Joomla

If your joomla site is using the current release, 2FA enabled, use strong passwords that are not used on any other site, and don't use dictionary words etc, you have appropriate website security tools/extensions in use you're about as secure as you can be.

No, I was just offering the observation, my post was not a question.
Thanks for posting the link to the language override, I neglected to do that.
