phpBB to Kunena

Post by JessieSun » Mon Oct 21, 2019 8:35 am

hello ppl
I want migrate phpBB 3.2.8 to Kunena 5.1.14 in Joomla 3.9.12 :D
which has 167323 posts in 2698 themas in 6 forums, and 300 users
so I download this script https://github.com/mixerp/phpbb-to-kunena
and exchanged data like name of forum database, joomla database, and now I'm ready to use that script

but don't know wha tto do with it - it is in .sql format, and I tried import it into joomla database (in phpmyadmin) bit I just destroyed it, so don't understand how to use that script

I'd suggest CMS 2 CMS (search Google for it), their service migrates a wide variety of well known CMS's and such (including no doubt, forums such as PHPBB to Kunena or vice-versa)

https://cms 2 cms.com/blog/migrating-phpb ... -tutorial/

(just remove the spaces in the domain name, the forum here converts it...).

Short answer: probably can't be done. Basically, you need to map the phpBB tables to Kunena. There was a script developed a few years ago to automate the process but no-one has maintained it. If you want a more authoritative response, ask at the Kunena forum.

CMS 2 CMS can well do the migration, apparently; I just checked it - you can select source (PHPBB) and target (Kunena) What you can migrate is another matter, beyond posts, and pages

Sorry for posting again regarding third-party service, but it directly answers the OP's question....

Of course, the more complex the migration the more $$ involved.

It's not that simple. I can do it. It would probably take me a few days and, for a job involving a hundred thousand posts (plus attachments) I could probably do it for a few hundred dollars. I'm just not that interested.

Tnx, but for so much data they want 999$ and I have this script for free so will rather try with this.
I do it as volonteer for unprofit assotiation and they will not pay to anyone anything.

I wanted do it manually but can't make some columns like "order of posts" because Kunena has numbers and phpBB has columns with post before and post after, so system is different, and there are too many data to do it manually.

1,5 year ago I converted from phpBB3 to Kunena. A bit complicated is it. But you need a special program Toad for MySQL that runs the convert.sql script. Without this program its impossible,
