Hello
I m facing a weird issue.
I m updating my site to last j3! and some components/plugins
Everything goes well, really. Except I noticed now I can't login as admin but only in the frontend, backend login works fine. So my password should be fine right?
Of course I tried cleaning cookies, others browsers etc.
Login works for all my other accounts, independently if they are just registered users or privileged users too.
Can't login as admin - site has JomSocial Topic is solved

Re: Can't login as admin
came to conclusion that jomsocial is the guilty one here.
but that's really a strange behavior... I mean all login works normally except the admin account. admin can login on backend but not on frontend, in the logs I get "joomlafailure Username and password do not match or you do not have an account yet."
After updating the admin password in the backend, I can login also in the frontend.. But that doesn't really inspire me much trust

Re: Can't login as admin - site has JomSocial
There are extensions that prevent the login of super user type users in the front end (e.g. Akeeba Admin Tools (Pro)).
However the "Username and password do not match or you don't have an account yet" error is a standard Joomla error message, not necessarily coming from Jomsocial (or caused by JomSocial). Next time it fails (if it fails) disable JomSocial and then check if you can log in the front-end without error.
I would suspect it could be just user error (data entry error of the credentials). Did you type the details with caps lock on, or enter characters similar in look (1 and l, or B and 8 as two examples). I find a password manager useful (saves having to type passwords at all) so try something like RoboForm or something else.

Re: Can't login as admin - site has JomSocial
Well I tried on a dev site several times and it always happen right after updating jomsocial
I can try again with your method and disable it
(obv passwords are saved in the browser so it's not a typo)
(ps2: it's not just on jomsocial login form that it fails, tried others )

also, even if the extension was disabling frontend login, I can't see how changing the password would then allow me to login in the frontend?. It's strange really, think about it. password is still working in backend and not frontend, but if I change it , then it's working in both area?.
That's not a normal behavior

More information would be useful in trying to identify the root cause. Please post the results from the Forum Post Assistant (FPA) by following the instructions at https://forumpostassistant.github.io/docs/ so that our volunteer Joomla experts can review the configuration.

Re: Can't login as admin - site has JomSocial
oh yes I have this tool, I tried long ago, it's really nice.
Meanwhile I have fixed my issue enabling disabling some old jomsocial plugin
"Jomsocial Update
system / jomsocialupdate
Provides legacy support for older versions of Joomla!"
Weird thing is after disabling, login works, but I can enable it again, and then login still works!?
