401 login failed after attempt to install J2XML Topic is solved

I've just tried with the installation of the extension J2XML, which was appearing to proceed for a second, when the backend prompted "An error has occurred. – 401 Login failed - Back to Control Panel".

My account appears to be still logged in as the backend menu is still visible, but I am unable to do anything: any click on the items in the menu doesn't produce any effect, and the same thing happen when I try to use the button "Back to control panel".

If I try to log in to the administrator page from another browser I receive the same alert ("An error has occurred. – 401 Login failed - Back to Control Panel"), but without passing through the login panel; the backend menu is missing, excepting the dark blue menu bar and the wheel on the right of the bar, where the commands "Edit User profile" and "Logout" are still visible, but not working at all.

The website appears to be online, but only if I try to reach it in a private window. If I try starting from the page where is supposed to be the backend and is supposed that I'm still logged in, I receive an error page "401 LOGIN FAILED. Looks like the page you're trying to visit doesn't exist."

I've searched through a lot of google pages and in the forum, but nothing found. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,
I solved the issue doing that procedure: using cPanel, found all the files and folders of “j2xml” and “eshiol” in various locations – as /public_html/media/, /public_html/language/en-GB/, /public_html/administrator/language/en-GB/, /public_html/administrator/manifests/packages/, /public_html/plugins/system/, /public_html/libraries/, /public_html/administrator/manifests/libraries/.
I also deleted the folder /public_html/plugins/system/basicauth.


Since, everything is working fine.

I installed J2XML 3.9.229 RC 1 and got the same error. I only removed /plugins/system/basicauth and the according entry in the database table "_extensions" with the name "System - Basic HTTP authentication". I remarked after import in a second website, that not all images where transfered and so I uploaded them via FTP. All imported items where displayed correctly. BTW: The installation in Joomla 3 works without problems only in Joomla 4 this error appears.

Did install J2XML (final version) on Joomla latest version. (3.10.xx - just updated)
Now "Error: 401 login failed"

(did nothing in the database)
...
back in admin 401 error disappeared

Bro bro, did you know, your post saved me countless hours of searching for a solution ? Just a few hours ago, I migrated a website from dev folder to root domain. Once I did, I got the error as you did. 401 cannot log in.

I was like, what the hell, it seems that the user is already logged in. Same issue for the frontpage too!
Since I do not use J2XML I renamed the 'basicauth' folder and the site worked. Now comes the question, what is up with Joomla 4 ? Why does it have so many errors compare to Joomla 3 ? I mean, I love using it but just basic stuff such as migrating a site can be a catastrophe, jesus! Thanks heaps man
