Error Archive does not exist Unable to find install package

I am getting the following error when trying to install "Install from Web" in my local Joomla! 3.5.1 installation on Linux Ubuntu 14.04 -

Unable to find install package


Please advise.

There are several reasons that might be causing this problem, notably permission issues. I suggest you just download the extension that you want to install and then install it on your website the good old way (not using the "Install from Web" feature). If you still have the problem even when doing that, then please post back here.

Thanks for your quick reply. Let me summarize what I was able to find in the meantime while waiting for a reply on this thread -

I am able to install 'Install from Web' and other extensions via the Joomla! admin panel for the website which resides in my /opt/lampp/app/joomla folder. I have another installation of J! in /opt/lampp/htdocs/itgallon for another website and through this website's J! admin panel I get the aforementioned error.

For your information -

I have installed XAMPP and on top of that Bitnami J! module for website in /opt/lampp/app/joomla/
For the next website (under /opt/lampp/htdocs/itgallon) I have installed J! 3.5.1 manually (by downloading J! setup from J! website)

And yes, I get the following error when installing extensions manually too (for my second website) -

You are definitely running into permission issues, make sure that your web server is able to write to your Joomla folders.

Thank you. I am able to install only after performing chmod 777 on all directories/files under opt/lampp/htdocs/itgallon

These permissions may be alright on my local system, but what after uploading to the hosting account? I doubt if I should keep 777 settings there as well?

Hi,

For what its worth, I was having a similar issue trying to install components/modules in Joomla 3.6.0. I'm on a shared web server so there isn't much I can do. I was suspicious of the path the error said could not create in.

Finally, I tried changing the 'Path to Temp Folder' to just 'tmp' and nothing else. It worked!! I have no idea which tmp directory its using but at least for me it resolved the issue.
