Good extension for commenting articles

Postby AndreaSi » Tue Aug 08, 2017 2:10 pm

Hi,

I hope someone can help me with my problem. It seems really weird the solution wouldn't exist as (as I believe) many pages need commenting to articles.

I would like to add some extension for commenting articles, but I can not find any appropriate. I would like to have a free version, but am also ready to pay about 50 eur (one time cost). My template is free - shaper_helix3 - Default.

First I have tried some free versions, but none of them worked well for me:

- I have tried Disqus, but I do not like their icons that appear at the bottom and confuse my visitors (the amount of 10 eur per month to hide them seems too expensive for me, especially because I do not expect a lot of commenting), I would also prefer that my visitors have chance to login at my page and not (only) somewhere outside - because I expect older population to visit my site. I otherwise like the appearance of Disqus.

- I also tried JComments, but the appearance is very unprofessional, everything is so narrow. And there is also no chance to reply to others comments.

- I also tried CComment, but does not work on my template, it says there is a problem with strings (I don't even know what that is:().

Is there anything chaep, easy and good looking available for joomla 3.7.4?

On my joomla 2.5 I have JooComments and that is better then possibilities I have listed above, but I can not find this or any functional and at least quite elegant extension for joomla 3.7.4.

I will really appreciate your help and am very grateful for all of the answers! :)

I've happily used CComment (the paid version) which is better than most of the other alternatives that I looked at. As you intimated, you had some PHP problems using CComment with the Shaper_Helix template (I don't doubt that because some features of that template are not always co-operative with other Joomla extensions). It may help, instead of giving up not knowing what a "string" is, to install CComment, even if only for a few days, describe the full details of the error message and maybe we can help to work through the problem?

It's your choice, however, what you choose to do. I can only say that I've reviewed a few commenting tools in the JED and, of the few that I tried, I was "happy" with CComment (and I still am happy with it).

I will have older population visiting my site and many of them are not familiar with Facebook neither interested in fb. So I think this wouldnt be the best option. Thank you for your help anyway, I appreciate it.

Thank you for your answer. I will try to install CComment again and I will report what is the problem. If you can help me with this issue, it would be really great. I will do it tommorow. Thank you for your readiness to help!

Not compatible with your PHP version. What PHP-version you are using?

Alternative:
https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... -comments/
https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/jcomments/

My PHP version is 7.1. About JComments and Disqus I wrote in my first mail. As I mentioned, I am ready to pay for one time purchase, but I would like to be sure that it will work on my free - shaper_helix3 template.

The error shows that CCommnet is not compatible with PHP7.1 so you need to connect with the developer.

Thank you for your help, you all are really great. At the end I decided for JComments and someone helped me and fixed it a little bit so now it is quite o.k. Now I am moving to next steps in building my joomla site and I am sure many more problems will show up.:)
