Best Community / Social Extension

Hi All,

Hoping to pick the collective brain a little I'm looking for a bit of opinion as I need to build a site that's a little bit outside of my normal wheelhouse.

It's to be a community site (free no payment gateway needed ect.) I need to be able to do the following;

- Each user gets a profile page - on which they can post images and status's
- Each user gets the ability to private message each other
- Any user can block any other except 'admin'
- Any user can search other users based upon - name - classification - location +/- miles etc.
- User's should be able to report things to admin
- User's should be able to post 'classified ads' with geographical info
- Classified's should be searchable by geographical area
- Responses to classified's should be private.

Also ideally user should be able to categorise their images as NSFW (Not Safe For Work) and other users should be able to apply a filter that blocks these images - it's an artists community someone is bound to post a nude and someone else is bound to be offended by it

My imediate thought was community builder as I have worked with that before but things might have moved on from when I chose that as being the best - 10 years ago!

I can't seem to find Jomsocial on the JED but I think that one's a commercial extension.

I don't use these so can't speak to the features you're looking for.

Read the reviews for community builder; it is averaging 90%+ scores, and still actively developed; latest update was June 2018.

Yeah I've seen the reviews.

From that I have determined that it's between Jomsocial, Easysocial and Community Builder.

I did notice that Jomsocial isn't in the JED though - I would love to know the reason why.

To be fair though I consider CB to be a commercial extension too - as in the past to achieve anything decent I have always had to upgrade.
