Are there alternatives to JComments?

Post by borja » Fri Aug 03, 2018 7:00 am

It seems that this extension is dead. Any free alternative? I would like to migrate the comments to the new extension.

Best regards,

Borja

@borja: There are alternatives to JComments, for example CComments Pro works (although it's not free). Have you tried that? Have you searched the JED for commenting extensions for Joomla?

I looked for alternatives but i saw that there are several alternatives and I don´t know which is the best one or although the extension seems that is not working it deserve to use it.

These alternatives that I found:

https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... ment-core/

https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... rcomments/

Which is the best option?

I don´t know which is the best one ... ?
It doesn't matter if anyone thinks an extension is "the best one". You have to choose which is the best one for you. Please don't ask us to choose the "best" one because everyone will have a different opinion.

I use several commenting extensions on my website. I currently use JComments on some websites and this seems to be "the best one" for those websites. I also use CComments Pro on one website and it is "the best one" for that site. I also use Kunena Discuss on another website and it is "the best one" for those websites. There are some websites where I do not use commenting extensions because no extension is "the best one" in those cases. Would you like me to continue?

I had to dump JComments due to too much errors when I used PHP 7.1. I changed to CComments Core (free) and its pretty good. You can convert your JComments to CComments and keep old comments. The bad thing is that there is no module for latest comments but if you buy Pro version you will get the module but to a high price IMHO.

Hello Slackervaara,

I install the CComments and I´ve got several doubts:
- Recacptcha 2: I need a paid version for this to work, isn´t it?
- Migrate from JComments: I see that you can do it for free but you need yo know some paramenters. Can Sb tell me where there is a manual?
- Any web to see an example.
Best regards,

Migration put your __jcomments database table and then com_content (if its news article) for the rest look in your _jcomments table to get right ids. Migration is very easy.
You need only captcha if guests are going to post comments.

I happened to read about K2 and it seems to offer commenting also. K2 is free.

We prefer the options Disqus provides. Integration into a Joomla site is pretty easy.
