CiviCRM for Joomla - is there a multisite option?

Post by webdevtim » Wed May 01, 2019 3:23 pm

I want to install CiviCRM on Joomla in a subdomain and then make the data and methods available in a second installation of CiviCRM on Joomla in the root domain. CiviCRM has a discussion of how to do this for Drupal and WordPress, but nothing for Joomla. Basically I want CiviCRM to be the database manager that operates in the background while content is displayed through Joomla. ACYMailing has Joomla plugins for CiviCRM, so at some level Joomla already supports CiviCRM.

The reason for this is that I want the actual website to be light weight with the heavy stuff handled by a separate installation where I can give CiviCRM it's own database, for performance reasons.

I can't believe that no one from the core team made any response to this.

Not one response. No wonder, on the CiviCRM forum, there is plenty of activity where WordPress and Drupal is concerned, but nearly nothing where Joomla is concerned, I am like the lone person posting to the Joomla branch of the CiviCRM forum.

I suggest you post on https://civicrm.org/ for assistance since they developed the extension.

OK, I have asked the gurus at CiviCRM I will let you know what they say.

They have instructions for multi-site installations on Drupal and WordPress, but none for Joomla. My question to them was why they didn't include instructions for multi-site installations on Joomla.

As I said originally, I want to keep the heavy lifting separate from the main website. I would also like satellite websites that use the same CiviCRM database to coordinate activities among many chapters of the organization.
