Module that displays a different messaged based on the time of day

Post by pioneer3000 » Wed Mar 18, 2020 10:48 am

I want to create a section for a streaming radio website that will display the show currently on air. There are 5-10 shows per day. I tried to do with a quotes module, but I could not display different text for every hour. Is there a way I can do this?

Hi pioneer3000,
Welcome to the Forum.
I don't know if there's a solution in JED.
https://extensions.joomla.org/
You can try a few copies of the Custom HTML module.
On each copy, set different options to start publishing and end publishing.
Greetings

Probably you could review the extension MetaMod (https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... t/metamod/) that may meet your need. Depending on the time of day, you could display the desired module(s).

The extension also has very good documentation.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Metamod seems like an option, but I;m very bad with writing custom php code. Are there any other alternatives or some type of starting code I can copy and edit to my needs?

I believe that you have not reviewed the documentation of the extension MetaMod. As I mentioned earlier, they have good documentation. Also, they have Recipes section (https://www.metamodpro.com/metamod/recipes) where the code snippet is given for various scenerios.

You could review their Recipe Date and Time rules (https://www.metamodpro.com/metamod/reci ... time-rules) for your need.

Note:
A good way to learn php could be from sites such as https://www.w3schools.com/php/.

I'm an extensive user of Regular Labs tools - all of the Regular Labs tools have time of day amongst the assignment options - have always considered making a site that shows localised seasonal greetings with time of day / season of the year appropriate colours and graphics, and would do that using Regular Labs functionality - particularly Advanced Module Manager to allocate various modules at times, or a mix of Snippets and ReReplacer to create a library of options that can then be scheduled based on times.

Metamod would work, but the since starting to use Regular Labs' suite I've not ever gone back to Metamod.

Based on not wanting to program, I would do the following:
- install Advanced Module Manager from Regular Labs www.regularlabs.com
- For each show, create a module, and assign them all to the one module position.
- On the Assignments tab that will appear in the Module settings now you've installed Advanced Module Manager, set the timing of when to display the module.
