Nothing to see on my site after installation
I've installed Joomla 3.0.0 on my:
Windows 8 Enterprise, IIS 8, SQL 2012 Express Edition, PHP 5.3.17 nts.
After installation (succesfull) I can manage my site in administration console, but there's nothing to see on main page of my site. Nothing. Viewing page source code shows me blank file... :-(
I don't know how to continue, what to check, because this is my "first touch" with Joomla.
Thanks for your help.

What happens when you type your-domain-name/index.php in the address bar of the browser?

Re: Nothing to see on my site after installation
http://localhost/joomla30/administration/ (without typing "index.php")
I can see nice logon screen, I can log in as admin, I can manage my site
http://localhost/joomla30/ (also with adding "index.php")
Nothing to see, white blank page. After pressing <Ctrl - U> in my FF 15.0.1 - there's nothing in source code, totally nothing. But I tried to open the site in IE 10, I got an error HTTP 500: The website cannot display the page. (administration also works fine)
File c:\inetpub\wwwroot\joomla30\index.php already exists and is not empty (look at attachement).
I just followed 4 steps on installation screen (including creating configuration.php) and then deleted "install" folder. I didn't make any changes to any file in joomla.

Did the configuration.php not auto create ? If you had to create it manually then you may have a Permissions issue on the server ?matusco wrote:...

Configuration.php was not created automatically, I had to create it manually. After your reply I tried to add permission "Modify" for "Everyone" on my c:\inetpub\wwwroot\joomla30 folder (its my own notebook), but without any change.Webdongle wrote: Did the configuration.php not auto create ? Maybe I missed something important in installation notes, but I don't know what to do else... :-(

Re: Nothing to see on my site after installation
Unusual certainly that the configuration.php was not created automatically on a Windows system and the fact that it is showing 666 means that the configuration.php is writeable (644 is the recommended setting for this whilst setting up the site). Ownership and permission issues are not noted as a likely problem, other than the usual windows issue that they are too accessible.
However what is an issue, and possibly THE issue, is that the system tmp/ directory is not writeable.
How did you install and configure IIS, MySQL and PHP perhaps refer to my thread at the top of the 2.5 IIS forum for some helpful links.

My system TMP folder (c:\users\my_username\AppData\Local\Temp\) is writable - no doubt.
So OK, i'll check installation notes for 2.5 version...

What virtual server are you using on your notepad ?matusco wrote:its my own notebook
Perhaps try xammp as the virtual server for localhost ?
You do mean you are installing Joomla on your notebook ... yes ?
When Joomla installs on a a correctly configured server(be it a remote server or virtual localhost server) then it writes the configuration.php file.

Re: Nothing to see on my site after installation
I gave up... :-(
I'm new to Joomla, I red at download site that version 3.0.0 is for "... early adopters" but I'd rather try older version 2.5.x
Yesterday I installed 2.5.7 on my developer notebook (Win8 x64 Ent, IIS8, MS SQL 2012 EE) and everything works fine, without any problems during or after installation. I'll check later the newest 3.x.x version, maybe in couple of month...
Appreciate your efforts.

If there are issues that have yet to be identified for the IIS / MSSQL model then waiting till later is not the wrong thing to do.
3.5 LTS, the next "real" step up from 2.5 LTS, is cited for release in September 2013 or possibly March 2014 which is the point where most of the current issues will have been identified, fixed, or documented as to the causation to help other users (provided the community resource to do the last one is available which is not easy to get for IIS/MSSQL unfortunately).
