SQL Server 2008 R2: Database sqlsrv_connect

Hi I am trying to install the latest Joomla 3.x on a hosted server. I have got as far as step 2 and trying to connect to a Sql Server (SELECT @@VERSION = Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP1) - 10.50.2550.0) database but I get

Could not connect to the database. Connector returned number: Database sqlsrv_connect failed

I can connect via SSMS using the credentials I am using on the config page. The only slightly different thing I can think of is that it's on a non-standard port e.g. mydatabaseprovider.net,2433

Any ideas?

seems no one've figured it out yet.....

I've successful connect to sql server using Codeigniter with php 5.6, 7.0, so I assumed that Joomla connecting to sql server is not thing difficult....hope some one tried it out can share the experience, please:~~~~

Please don't use SQL Server. The support will be dropped in the next version of Joomla, and you have to rebuild your site.
