Yet another set of instructions for running Joomla under IIS

Post by RenniePet » Tue Apr 11, 2017 5:25 pm

I've created a brand-new blog (using Joomla, of course), and the first subject that I blog about is how to install Joomla on a Windows system with IIS and MySQL. So these instructions are a bit different from what user nchua (Nick) posted back in October 2016, since he used MS SQL.

http://renniestechblog.com/index.php/in ... s-overview

In the long tradition of the software business, my brand-new blog is at the beta stage of development, but it doesn't say so anywhere.

Any criticisms or suggestions about my instructions for running Joomla under IIS, or for the setup of my blog, are very welcome.

Interesting article, thanks for the link.

My advise is create tutorials about aws joomla in IIS

https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/B01GGCF0AU
Paginas web en arequipa: http://arequipa.nestormina.com/
Diseño de paginas web en cusco: http://www.nestormina.com

@CircuitoX, thanks for your comment and suggestion.

The Cognosys company also has a "Secured Joomla on Windows 2012 R2" VM image at Azure, and I tried it out for about a week if I remember right.
https://azuremarketplace.microsoft.com/ ... b=Overview

But in the end I decided to do it myself, mostly because I found the pricing model irritating. They provide a one-time service (creating the image), but you're supposed to pay an on-going fee for as long as you use it, maybe years. And there's no updating service or anything, it is a running fee for a one-time service.

There was also something about how the file permissions were set up, although this is apparently a controversial subject with conflicting information everywhere you look. They had placed the Joomla website files in folder C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Joomla, and had given user IUSR "full control" permission from C:\inetpub\wwwroot and down for all sub-folders. That doesn't seem right. See here for more information:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1493 ... ns-in-iis8

Other than that, I must admit I know nothing about AWS. Are they cheaper or better than Azure?

Start reading here https://stackify.com/azure-vs-aws-comparison/ At the bottom you find a link to pricing models. If you Google for 'AWS vs Azure' you will find all the info you need
