Installing extensions on windows server

Post by wellis321 » Thu Jul 06, 2017 6:45 pm

Hello

I'm using windows server 2012 R2 with MS SQL express.

Whenever I try to install an extension I get the message =

Code: Select all

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver 13 for SQL Server][SQL Server]Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'system_data', table 'test.dbo.#__extensions'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.

I tried removing the NOT NULL from the Joomla! SQL file before installation but that didn't work.

I've seen older posts along the same line so I think this is probably still a bug.

Sorry about using Windows Server but believe me - it's not through choice.

Thanks

William

I don't know MS SQL Express is one of the supported databases. The requirements state SQL Server v10.5.1600.1 as minimum/recommended, but doesn't mention SQL Server Express.

https://downloads.joomla.org/technical-requirements

If you can try the following, it may rule out Joomla as the problem (could be the extension that doesn't work well with SQL Server Express) or simply that JOomla doesn't work properly with SSE.

Install XAMPP on your PC, install the site you're working with there. (take backup with Akeeba Backup / restore with Kickstart). See if it runs correctly on MySQL/Apache or MySQL/IIS first, then we can come back to MS SQL Express/Windows.

It would help also to post the FPA Report for the windows server site.
See the red section, top of page - but follow the instructions laid out here: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=621&t=582860

If a solution can't be found you might have to gently advise your client that MS SQL Express is not adequate for the task.

Some others might have ideas too since I'm no expert on web server stuff and all the above is just guesswork.

I think MS SQL support is planned to be dropped in Joomla 4.0 if I'm not mistaken.

(obviously early days for J! 4.0 and could always be subject to change).

Hello Both

I'm so embarrassed that I didn't even check the requirements!

OF course it won't work with this rubbish set-up. I should have known.

I'm going to run XAMPP as I should have done from the beginning.

Thank you both for making things clearer as always.
