Joomla on W2k12R2, IIS 8.5, SQL 2016

Hello guyz,
on a fresh Win 2012 R2 datacenter, i was able to install all prereqs and use a remote SQL server 2016 instance. I went ahead right to the install button, but when it starts installing, after bar loads 25% ..boom.. back to the install page. No messages no errors.
All IIS permissions over joomla folder has been already set up and double checked. I also enabled php log, but it does not generate anything.
I know sql > 10 is not supported yet, but i would like to get some tip and try to find out what's wrong, because in our company we have sql 2016 boxes only and i cannot downgrade to sql 2008r2.
In the case i could set up a sql profiler to check what is happening at backend; several changes has been made with sql 2016 in terms of sql dictionary, so joomla install could pass invalid commands to build db and fill it.
Tried joomla 3.9.18 and 3.8.13.
Thanks for any answer
